TEAM FINISH UPDATE!!

Hey all you fellow Rebel Alliance out there!!

Rebel Scum officially finished the 2025 Texas Water Safari at [about] 4:45AM this morning (Sunday morning)!!

This is finish #8 for Sonja, #7 for Clint, Rachel & Larry and finish #3 for Kenney & Jenn. Way to go Scum!!

Long story long, the race called official finish line at Swinging Bridge/Checkpoint #9 at 8:30AM. Any path forward was absolutely beyond too dangerous to continue, including the Jeep Trail (the alternate mandatory route that was being considered in place of The Cuts). We are very grateful to TWS for the making the hard but right decision to keep everyone safe. The Scum in the boat are extra grateful they didn’t have to drag the boat down the Jeep Trail, lol.

It required some tactical logistics to all of the sudden be finished at an unplanned location. But what a wonderful opportunity it was for the team to be present at Swinging Bridge [Invista] when TWS President Allen announced to the teams present they were finished. It was like finishing as a team of 50 people instead of 4. Boats that had pulled out of Swinging but not made Calhoun’s had to be picked up and brought back up river to Swinging.

What an INCREDIBLY unique Safari this has been this year. The River never disappoints.

Rebel Scum are all healthy, in very good spirits, currently soaking the river scum off in showers and eagerly looking forward to some Mexican food, celebratory drinks and comraderie with fellow paddlers at the (traditional) finish line.

Signing off for now in pursuit of tacos, tequila and some finish line Safari hang.

Scum Safari Update!!

It has been a *long* night, that started at 9A Friday morning , lol.

Scum rolled into Checkpoint #8/Victoria last night at 9:45P for a refresh . Paddlers and boat intact. Pulled out maybe 3 minutes later, because the boat ramp was bananas busy.

We met them 9 miles downstream at Hwy 59 for another refresh, they rolled in around???? who remembers anymore, lol. Maybe around 12:30A??

We have some busted hands and busted butts, some colorful hallucinations, but this is every Safari.

Onto Checpoint #9/the jams they went. But the jams were gone, basically paddled right over the top of them! Thank you high water?!

Into Swinging Bridge they came about 4:40A, where they remain still. Sleeping for the FIRST time.

The only reason they remain here is because the race called for a mandatory stoppage here due to unsafe/flood conditions further down. The sun is rising currently, which is when race officials will reasses river conditions and make a decision re getting boats back on the water and across the finish line.

The Cuts are mandatory closed and all paddlers HAVE to take the Jeep Trail. If you know, you know.

That’s the best update my brain cells can muster currently. Everyone is healthy. The boat is great. And no paddler will be back on the river unless it is 100% safe to do so.
