Epic end to the Fall season for the team with Tyler Logan winning the D15 ILCA 6 title last weekend, Madeline Perdue 2nd in the ILCA 4 fleet, and Caroline Horne with a dominant win in race 7.

Special congratulations to Tyler Logan for finishing 7th at the District 13 championships a few weeks ago in a challenging ILCA 6 fleet.

It was also nice to see GCYSA graduate and current Brown University Sailing team member William Baker finish 3rd in his final ILCA 7 event of the year. Also in attendance was GCYSA graduate Asher Zittrer, who sadly wasn’t able to retain his D15 title.

Big week coming up for some of our GCYSA graduates as they take on the 2024 US Olympic team trials.

We have 2 graduates in the ILCA 6 and 2 in the ILCA 7.
All sailors coming in on rather hot form with the McCann brothers being the only US sailors to make it into the gold fleet at the 2024 ILCA 7 World Championships in Adelaide, Australia which concluded only 2 weeks ago.
Lillian Myers took out the 2023 ILCA 6 North American Championships in Alamitos bay, California (2028 Olympics venue).
Charlotte Rose just claimed 2nd at the 2024 ILCA 6 World Championships.

I have spoken with all of them in the last week and they are all excited/nervous but ultimately fully prepared and ready to take on these trials.

Charlotte, Lilly, Marshall and Ford we wish you all the best. Fair winds, good sailing and above all else trust the process!!!

Consistency is key!!! It was a challenging Mid Winters East this year. We managed to have races in almost every wind strength but sadly didn’t manage to have enough to get a drop. Team member William Baker executed his event near perfectly only making a few mistakes but every time correcting them for the following race. This lead to him having a 2,2,1,1 scoreline for the event and ending up the 2024 Mid Winters East Champion. William is the 2nd GCYSA sailor to win the event in recent years with Michael Burns taking the event out in 2020.
The rest of the team made some big steps forward in their windy weather sailing managing to have roundings in the top 10. Solid signs of progress and a clear path forward.

A big thank you to St Petersburg Yacht club ( ) and Todd Fedyszyn ( ) you guys did an amazing job to salvage a good regatta from some less than ideal conditions.

The team will be back into training mode now in the lead up to our next event which will be Gulf Coast Champs in Clearwater, FL at the start of March.

Big Congratulations to GCYSA team member William Baker for finishing 3rd at the Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta over the Christmas break. William sailed a strong event and continued to work through his weaknesses to become stronger from race to race.

The whole team sailed well with 3/5 ending up in the gold fleet and the whole team having races at the front of the pack. It’s gearing up to be an exciting 2024 for the team.

If you are looking for High Performance ILCA training feel free to get in contact with us so you can come and train with some of the best ILCA sailors in Texas and the Country.

Safe to say it has been an absolutely epic year for GCYSA so far this year. Sailors have been continuing to push the top of the fleet nationally and once again proving they are the premier ILCA 6 performance team in Texas.
Multiple sailors in our program have experienced success this year and we think it’s worth acknowledging their success through all the hard work they have put in this year.

Mid Winters East ILCA 6- Nick Mueller 4th, William Baker 5th
Mid Winters West ILCA 6- William Baker 6th
US Sailing Youth Nationals ILCA 6- Nick Mueller 2nd overall and 1st U18 so was selected to represent the USA at the 2023 Youth World Championships in Brazil. William Baker 5th overall and 4th U18.
ILCA 4 North American Championships- Gavin Galway 3rd overall.
US ILCA Nationals- William Baker 4th overall ILCA 6 and 3rd Youth. Gavin Galway 6th in the ILCA 4 class.

Along side this Coach Alex was asked to coach at the Canadian Youth Nationals where he had the pleasure of working with Noah Adler who ended up 3rd overall and Elspeth Simms who ended up 3rd girl.

Coach Alex was also privileged enough to coach the Royal New Yacht Squadron team at the 2023 Rolex Invitational held in the IC37 class. After an amazing week of sailing they managed to come away with 3rd overall.

We always welcome new athletes into our team so if you are looking to join a high performance program that’s going to help you get to the next level feel free to reach out and we can help you to set and achieve your goals.
