The Lackawanna River Heritage Trail is a multi-use trail that follows the Lackawanna River for forty miles in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The trail is developed and managed by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority, a municipal government arm of Lackawanna County, and is part of the Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area. The trail begins at the river’s confluence with the S
usquehanna River at Duryea and Pittston in Luzerne County, travels through Lackawanna County and joins the Delaware and Hudson (D&H) Rail-Trail in Simpson. From that point, the D&H Rail-Trail extends north to the New York State border. With more than 230,000 annual visits, the trail is a wonderful community asset. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the changing seasons through a host of healthy activities such as walking, jogging, biking, nature watching, dog walking, stretching and strength training.
