MCC Boys Track State Final Summary

The Mason County Central boys track & field team competed at the state finals in division 3 on Saturday May 30th in Kent City. Jackson Poll represented MCC in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles and Eli Smith competed in the long jump. Jackson Poll placed 13th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.33 and 14th in the 300 M hurdles with a time of 40.55. Eli Smith leaped 19'10.75": to earn 16th place. I know the guys are disappointed with how they placed, they ran really good times and jumped well, but they were going to have had their personal records today and it just didn't happen. I'm very proud of how the guys performed today and throughout the season. This does give Jackson good experience for next year and hopefully we will be bringing down more qualifiers to join him.

CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS TRACK
Sanders Claims All-State Honors as Lady Spartans Wrap Up Season at State Finals

The Mason County Central Lady Spartans officially wrapped up their track and field season on a hot Saturday, competing against the absolute best in Michigan at the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals hosted by Kent City High School.

Highlighting the day for the Spartans was junior Maylan Sanders, who secured a spot on the state podium to earn medalist recognition and All-State honors. Sanders placed fourth in the state in the 300-meter hurdles with a gritty time of 46.23. Earlier in the day, she advanced through the preliminary round of the 100-meter hurdles, ultimately finishing eighth in the state finals with a time of 15.38.

In the field events, sophomore Faith Hawke capped off her breakout season with an impressive performance in the discus. Competing in a loaded field of throwing talent, Hawke placed 11th with a toss of 109 feet, 5 inches.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Madelyn Sterley, Raelyn Wilson, Nevaeh Battice, and Sanders also put together a hard-fought performance on the red track. The handoffs were clean as the squad clocked their fastest time of the season, 4:17.06 to finish 14th overall in the state. A special shout-out to Nevaeh in her final race of her high school career ran an incredible leg finishing with a lifetime best split of 1:01.93.

Coaches note: "I am incredibly proud of how these girls competed on the biggest stage of the year. Earning not one but two All-State medals is a massive achievement for Maylan, and every single girl pushed their limits today. With Nevaeh being our only graduating senior from this group, the championship experience our underclassmen gained today is going to be incredibly valuable for the future of this program. We can't wait to be back next year."

Good Afternoon,

I am sending this email as a reminder of physical night here in the Main Gym of the High School from 3:30-5:30p next week Wednesday, May 27th. This is for all athletes entering 6-12th grade next year who need a sports physical. Pop Warner athletes are also welcome. Please share the attached flyer on all social media platforms with the link below to register. We currently only have 48 students signed up and the High School alone had 183 physicals turned in this year so I know there are more students who could benefit from this.

AWESOME JOB YOUNG SPARTANS

Both the middle school boys and girls track teams are the Zone 7 Regional Champions for their division. Congratulations to both teams on their big achievements. The boys team outscored second place, Houghton Lake, by 26 points and the girls took the lead over second place, White Cloud, by an impressive 74 points.

Leading the girls team was Evy Cronk with 3 first place finishes in the 55 hurdles, 200 hurdles, and pole vault. Also scoring big points for the team was Merrick Tacktor with wins in the 1600m and 3200m races and a second place in the 800m run. The girls shot putters continue to put up impressive numbers with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes by Kaitlynn Hawke, Kara Quick, and Bristol Jabrocki respectively. Finally, the girls 4x800 team of Brynn Publiski, Kenzie Wood, Brooklyn Soberalski, and Chelsea Kanitz also had an impressive first place finish.

On the boys side, Brody Dunneback was a standout with a first place finish and new personal record in the 200 hurdles and a second place finish in the 55 hurdles. Freeman C**n and Gavin Bell landed first and second respectively in the 400m dash both setting new personal records. The 4x400 team of Bodie Christensen, Gunner Cole, Freeman C**n, and Gavin Bell finished out the meet with an impressive 1st place finish, 19 seconds ahead of their closest competitor.

All athletes on both teams put up outstanding times and distances. We are incredibly proud of the hard work that each and every one of these kids have put in to help achieve such exciting victories! We hope to keep the momentum going as we head into our final meets of the season. Go Spartans!
