2 years ago today was L.E. Rhodes last day of fishing.
My Pops and I spent that day on the river together visiting all of his favorite spots. It was a warmer day with smoke in the air from local brush fires. I have declared March 5th a fishing holiday to honor my Dad!
So today that's what Leah and I did again! We enjoyed the day on the James River and caught 4 smallmouth and 1 largemouth bass. We saw lots of wildlife including 2 bald eagles.
The sunshine was warm and we know pops was with us in spirit! 🎣

We just want to give a shout out to Mark at River Bottom Fish Reproductions!
Mark did an exceptional job on a Smallmouth mount for my daughter. He was provided the weight, measurements, and photographs and he took it from there. He was excellent with communication and confirming desired details. The finished product was perfect. We look forward to working with him again in the future. Check out his page linked below!

Hello to all friends and family of Hatchmatcher Guide Service!

I have met many of you but I would like to officially introduce myself for those of you who do not know me. My name is Jarred Rhodes and I am the son of L.E. Rhodes, founder of Hatchmatcher Guide Service. I am also a proud husband to my wife of 16 years and father to our 3 children. We live in Scottsville, VA which is also where I grew up tying flies, building fishing rods and fishing along side my father. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to meet many Hatchmatcher Guide Service clients while assisting my dad on guiding trips. Fishing is a true passion of mine, just like it was to my father. He taught me all that I know and we created a lifetime of memories together.
As most of you know, my father passed away in May 2022 after a short and fierce battle with cancer. After his diagnoses, I worked with him to take on as many trips as I could while also running my construction business full time. My father, who I called “Pops”, always encouraged his loved ones to have fun in life. He knew I enjoyed guiding as much as he did and he encouraged me to take over Hatchmatcher Guide Service, as long as it was something I wanted to do.
I am honored to keep Hatchmatcher Guide Service operating not only for my father, but also for his family and grandchildren, who have passionately supported this business. His wife of 43 years and my mother Sherry, his children, grandchildren, and family were the joy of his life.
Hatchmatcher Guide Service is the business he dreamed of creating for so long and I took time last year to make sure I was able to continue his legacy. I also spent a lot of time on the river in my Pops’ blue raft with many long time clients. I am thankful that Hatchmatcher Guide Service has a lot of trips already booked for the upcoming season. I am looking forward to this upcoming season of Hatchmatcher Guide Service and sharing a lot of pictures! I will do everything in my power to honor my dad and I know he is with us in spirit. I am truly grateful for each of you supporting Hatchmatcher Guide Service.
