Huge congrats…. From a 17-year-old kid stepping onto the field at Scottsdale Community College to the new Head of Strength & Conditioning at Western New Mexico University; what a ride for Ben Burnell . Continuing the tradition
Twenty years ago, Ben showed up with an unmatched work ethic, absolute authenticity, and a competitive drive that made him an instant favorite amongst his teammates. After three relentless years with us, he served our country for four years in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier. When he returned, he jumped straight into our internship program while earning his Exercise Science degree at ASU, earned his spot as a paid assistant coach, and eventually stepped up as a core pillar of our performance team at Triple Threat Performance. Along the way, he met the love of his life, Cierra, began impact coaching at Horizon High School, and welcomed their baby boy into the world.
Developing, mentoring, and building young people isn’t just what Ben does; it’s what he was born to do. He cares about his athletes with a rare level of heart that makes people want to climb Everest for him.
The Mustangs just got a whole lot better today. Couldn’t be prouder or more excited for Ben, Cierra, and every single athlete at WNMU who gets the opportunity to train under him.

Want to be great? Are you doing the things you aren’t good at?

Did you put yourself in a position to make the team and succeed? If you know the test questions, you should probably practice answering those questions.

Two weeks out from the USATF U20 World Qualifier, every rep has a specific neurological purpose.
1.) Heavy Single-Leg Attacking Step-Ups (Verkhoshansky Method) 4x3ea @ 315lbs. Building violent single-leg vertical force for the jumps and sprints.
2.) GHD Glute Ham Raises (Westside Barbell Influence) Training rapid eccentric catch and explosive concentric acceleration to bulletproof the hamstrings at top speed.
3.) T-Grip Bar Split Jerks 4x2 @ 135lbs. Ergonomic multi-grip to protect the joints while training upper/lower body power transfer for the shot put.
4.) Hanging Alternate Leg Raises Isolating the iliopsoas musculature for aggressive, high-velocity hip flexion. U20WorldQualifier Eugene2026

Two weeks out, we don’t crush the athlete. we wake up the central nervous system.
1.)Chain-Loaded SSB Box Squats – 5x2 @ 185lbs plate + 150lbs chain. Accommodating resistance teaches the brain to accelerate through the entire movement, matching the strength curve perfectly.
2.) Iso/Dynamic Front Plank – Activating the anterior sling system. If the trunk can’t transfer power, speed is lost. Bracing is everything.
3.) Oscillating Banded TKEs. Creating a targeted stimulus that forces the VMO and vastus lateralis to contract, stabilizing the patella and protecting the knees before Eugene.
