I read this nugget... It is an approach I've adopted in my teaching journey: " When teachers concentrate solely on rote learn-
ing, teaching and assessing focus solely on remem-
bering elements or fragments of knowledge, often in
isolation from any context. When teachers focus on
meaningful learning, however, remembering knowl-
edge is integrated within the larger task of con-
structing new knowledge or solving new problems.
In other words, when meaningful learning is the
goal, then remembering becomes a means to an
end, rather than the end itself."
