I spent years trying to fit into spaces that weren't built for me.

And I got really good at hiding the parts of myself that didn't fit.

But hiding didn't make me belong. It just made me tired.

Now I lead with the parts I used to hide. And I help others do the same - AKA be their TRUE selves.

Because the world doesn't need more people pretending to fit.
It needs more people showing up as they are (and the environments that are safe to do so).

So as we go into this season of change,
I invite you to think about: the qualities of yourself you've been hiding?

How can you incorporate those unique parts of you into this new season?

The reset I actually use takes a minute and it is free.

Breathe in, arms up. Arms out big. Stretch. Breathe out. Do it a few times.

That is the whole thing.

I started doing this after I hurt my back, at a point where I could not even tie my own shoes. It was not a wellness routine I chose. It was my body telling me it needed something, and me not having many other options.

It stuck, and I think the reason is simple. There is no version of my day that cannot fit sixty seconds.

You can do it a hundred different ways, and the specific shape matters less than you would think. The point is moving your body on purpose, and finding the version that is yours.

Try it right now, before you scroll any further. Then tell me what your reset is. I would genuinely like to know.

"It doesn't matter how you enter the world. It matters how you leave it."

That is LeeAnne Ruff, on this week's episode, and I have been sitting with it ever since.

If you have heard how she entered the world, you will understand why that line carries what it does. She had no say in any of it. Not one single part.

But everything she has built since then has been hers.

And I think that is the point, well beyond her story. Most of us are carrying some starting condition we did not choose. The circumstances of the beginning were never a verdict on what comes after. They were simply the beginning.

You can make a difference right where you are, today. Not once you have healed the thing, or arrived somewhere, or finally become the version of yourself you keep putting off.

Today. From right here.

There are a lot of people who will sell you a system for building confidence.

LeeAnne Ruff doesn't think you need one.

"I believe we already are. It's in there."

Her point is that resilience isn't something you construct from nothing. It's something you already have proof of, and have mostly never counted.

I survived that. I survived my kids being toddlers. I survived a nasty breakup. I have been working 40 hours a week.

That's the kind of thing most of us would never put on a list, because it doesn't feel like an accomplishment. She says that's exactly why it belongs there. What you think is nothing is everything.

You're not building a foundation from scratch. You're finally reading the one that has been underneath you the whole time.

So here's my question for you. Name one thing you survived. It doesn't have to be dramatic. That's rather the point.

Trying to fit in is what made me feel not good enough.

Not the other way around. That's the piece I had backwards for a long time.

I used to perceive people as being hard on me. Friends, peers, rooms I walked into. I felt like I didn't belong and I tried very hard to understand why. Too weird. Too loud. Too random. I had a whole list.

What I couldn't see then was what was actually happening. I was thinking the way other people were thinking. I had taken their judgment and made it my own view of myself, and then I went looking for proof.

And it compounds. It moves from "I don't fit in here" to "I'm not good enough" to "I'm not worthy enough." By that last step you're not describing the room anymore. You're describing yourself.

Unveiling who you actually are is hardest when it goes against an identity you already built. That isn't a sign you're doing it wrong. That's what the work feels like.

The most useful thing from this week's episode takes about thirty seconds to set up.

Open your phone. Set a reminder for 8 or 9 in the morning and make it repeat every day. Then type in one line you need to hear before the day starts. "I am confident." "I am a badass." "I am the best there is." "I am a gift." Whatever you would want someone to say to you first thing.

That's the whole thing. Every morning it comes up and tells you.

LeeAnne Ruff has been teaching this from keynote stages since 2017, and to this day people reach out to tell her they still get that reminder.

Most advice is something to think about later. This one is something you can do right now, before you scroll any further.

Set yours, then tell me what it says. I'd love to read them.

The assessment for ADHD is a four and a half hour process.

Think about that for a second. To find out whether sustained focus is hard for you, you sit down and sustain focus, for four hours.

I went through it, and I would do it again, because coming out the other side genuinely changed a lot of different parts of my life.

But I keep thinking about the people who begin that process and don't finish it, or who never begin at all, because the door itself is built out of the exact thing they're struggling with.

We do this in more places than we realize. We ask people to prove a difficulty by performing through it, and then we read not finishing as a lack of motivation.

If you've been putting something off that would likely help you, and the real reason is that the process looks impossible, that isn't weakness. That's a barrier worth naming.

LeeAnne Ruff speaks about being seen, inclusion, and belonging. This week she told me where that comes from.

Her birth mother hid the pregnancy from everyone. Never saw a doctor. LeeAnne was born prematurely and alone, under five pounds. Three days later she was brought to a hospital and surrendered. The state became her legal parent.

Here’s how she holds it now:

“Damn, I’m a survivor. I made it three days by myself. No one holding onto me. No one whispering I love you in my ears. I survived.”

The people who do the deepest work on belonging usually knew its absence first.

That’s why she’s worth hearing on this.

None of it matters if the moments aren’t there.

I’ve been thinking about the grind. About why we build at all. To grow? To be busy?

I build for creative and financial freedom. But freedom isn’t the point either. Freedom is what lets the moments exist.

The silence. Nature. The moments inside the craziness. Being the person someone calls when they need someone to cry with.

The money builds things. It was never about the money.

A lot of us are building to build. The momentum becomes the reason, and we stop asking what it’s for.

So I’ll ask you what I’ve been asking myself. Why are you building?

Answer it and you’ll help someone else find theirs.
