Anyone interested in a box of vintage bicycle mags from 1982-1989? Not a complete collection, but it will put a smile on cyclists of a certain era when men were men and no one wore a helmet and carbon bikes were built the same as any other bike: round tubes fitted into lugs! There were no clipless pedals, no shifting "platforms," no integrated cable routing, shifters were still on the down tube and the standard gearing was a 52/42 in the front and a 12-17 in the back! Yes, really! The ads displaying the latest and greatest are particularly interesting, featuring component makers that are long gone, but were state of the art 40 years ago! All the mags fit into a copy paper box and if you want them, you have to pick them up. It's also first come, first served! Leave a message in the comments if you're interested.

As you know, we are big fans of the Erie Canal (as well as the Champlain Canal which goes right by our shop)!

Last week, while John and Abby were resting at home, Kathy and our friend Pamela Bentien joined a tour of an excavation of the original Albany Lock 1 on the Enlarged Erie Canal from the 1840s.

The Albany Waterway Canal Project hopes to resurrect the lock and the former boat basins on either end of it and bring waterfront recreation and tourism all the way to downtown Albany. More details in the captions of the photos below.

Now that excavation of the site is finished for 2026, NYS DOT has allowed it to remain visible behind a locked fence for public viewing until digging resumes next year.

We've had a hectic schedule since we finished cycling the Erie Canal with Parks & Trails New York a couple of weeks ago, so here are a few updates! We'll start with a couple of nice events at Hudson Crossing Park, Schuylerville, NY that Abby and John went to. First up was their 20th anniversary pot luck dinner, which happened to be the day we finished the Erie Canal Trail, and was very nice. We ran into a family that also rode the Erie Canal Trail, and were now heading up to Canada on the Champlain Canalway Trail: A Path through History and Empire State Trail. They needed a new set of pedals, so we took them to the shop and helped them out! John even found his marbles at the pot luck! He was looking for them on the ride, but they never turned up at the lost and found. Who knew they'd be at Hudson Crossing Park, Schuylerville, NY and that they had been missing since the eighteenth century! Next up was a seminar for NYS Canal Corporation and New York Power Authority employees on how to use accessible sports equipment. And lastly, we attended the Cardboard Boat Race sponsored by Hudson Crossing Park, Schuylerville, NY and held at Friends of Fort Hardy Park, which is always super fun!
