New freshwater fishing regulations go into effect April 1, 2017. DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos says these regulatory changes will help maintain New York’s abundant freshwater sport fishing opportunities. They include greater protection and management of certain fish species that have seen a decline in spawning adults. The modification of the sport fishing regulations come after a two-year process that included biological assessment and formal 45-day comment period.
