Recently, a private group of plein air painters will spent the day creating here at Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center.

We love this event because it shows another side of what this property can be: not only a place for horses, but a setting for creativity, workshops, clubs, classes, and small-group gatherings.

Learning to ride starts with the right teacher.

At Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center, riding instructor **Penny Wahlgren** brings decades of experience with horses and a genuine love of helping young riders learn.

Penny teaches students how to ride, but just as importantly, she teaches them how to understand and care for the horse beneath them.

Lessons may include grooming, safe horse handling, riding skills, horse behavior and the little details that help a young rider grow in confidence.

For the child who has been dreaming about horses, riding lessons can be the beginning of something very special.

Happy National Dog Day!

Today we want to give a special thank-you to Carol Lofquist and TLC Dog Training for being such a valued part of the Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center community.

Once a month, Carol brings her Saturday in Sayner class lineup to Plum Lake, where she has the space she needs for agility equipment, training activities, and the variety of classes she offers.

We love seeing the arena filled with dogs learning, working, and having fun, and we especially appreciate the knowledge, energy, and dedication Carol brings to every class.

Thank you, Carol, for choosing Plum Lake Event & Equestrian Center as a home for your monthly program and for all you do for dogs and their people in the Northwoods.

You may have heard the rumors. Equine Compulsion Syndrome (ECS) is still out there.

Common symptoms may include:

• Stopping whatever you're doing when a horse walks by
• Having an unreasonable number of horse photos on your phone
• Talking about horses to people who did not ask about horses
• Feeling that unmistakable urge to get back in the saddle
• Being 8, 18, 48 or 78 and still thinking, “I want to learn to ride.”

Fortunately, we know just what to do about it.
