Sessions for Stephanie

I’ve been trying to find a way to honor former Swerve client, Stephanie Vance, who sadly passed away recently. What I’ve decided to do is to open the studio up to anyone who wants a personal training session (clients & non-clients alike.) There will be no charge for your session. I do, however, ask that you make a donation of your choice to the family. Cash, check and Venmo are all acceptable.

I’ll be doing this all day on Saturday, October 11th. I’ll start at 5am and I’m offering 30 minute sessions for as long that day as I can get people to book them. If Saturday fills out, I’ll open up scheduling for Sunday, the 12th. Solo sessions (1-on-1) or semi-private (more than one person) sessions available.

I’ll design a workout specific to you and your request with consideration to any medical history you might have. Want me to provide a fitness assessment? Want to check your body fat percentage? Wanna spend 30 minutes with a TRX workout, or work on your bench press? Whatever you want with your time with a trainer, I will be happy to provide.

If interested (and I hope you are ❤️) ,please directly message me and I will coordinate with you on scheduling for that day.

If you have no interest in doing a workout with me but still would like to make a donation to the family, please also direct message me and I can get that squared away for you as well. 🙏

Our August Swerve Spotlight shines on Dr. Clint Jackson!

How did you hear about Swerve?

C: Several of my patients referred me. They had nothing but nice things to say about Swerve.

What are your workouts at Swerve like?

C: Challenging but fun. Josh mixes it up and makes me do exercises that I wouldn’t do on my own

What’s it like working with Josh?

C: It’s great! I love his positive attitude and sense of humor. It makes the workouts more enjoyable!

What makes Swerve different than other studios/gyms/trainers you’ve been to?

C: They really pay attention to you during your workout by watching your form. This helps prevent injury.

What’s your favorite thing about Swerve?

C: The trainers! Josh and Jaryd are great guys that love what they do and it shows!!

What’s your story? What brought you to Swerve?

C: As a chiropractor, I need to stay healthy in order to help my patients. I use Swerve as my fitness expert and believe they are the best personal training studio in the area.

What are your goals with your workouts? What do you train for?

C: Strength and Balance. I train to keep in shape so I can adjust patients all day in my office.

What exercise do you loath?

C: Burpees!!

What exercise do you love?

C: Pull ups and Bosu ball exercises that incorporate both balance and strength.

From the Trainer:

I’ve know Clint for a long time. I had an impinged nerve in my neck a few years ago that was starting to really impact my job and my training. I went to see Clint and he got me back to completely healthy and I haven’t had an issue with it since! I’ve really enjoyed my sessions with him. Through his expertise in the chiropractic world, I’ve been able to bounce some skeletal questions I’ve had on the human body off of him and he’s enhanced my knowledge and understanding of the body! Id highly recommend going to see Dr. Jackson for all of your chiropractic needs!!!

June’s Swerve Spotlight shines on Bev! She’s been with the studio even before we got started and has completed 637 training sessions with Josh! Here’s Bev’s story…

How did you hear about Swerve?

Bev: I had trained with Josh at a previous location & when he & Jaryd opened Swerve, I followed.

What are your workouts at Swerve like?

Bev: My workouts are always different. I never know if it’s going to be mostly cardio, weights or a combination. We work on weight training to help minimize the osteoporosis that is in my family & keep me strong. We work on my balance so that I won’t fall as I age. And the cardio….well, I guess he just likes to torture me with that! 😈

What’s it like working with Josh?

Bev: It’s been great for all these years. He always takes into account what my needs are when determining my workouts. He always checks in with me on my goals and if any adjustments need to be made to workouts in regards to injuries. If I need to reschedule a workout, he always tries to get it rescheduled quickly and works to accommodate my schedule.

What makes Swerve different than other studios/gyms/trainers you’ve been to?

Bev: I like the fact that Swerve is a small studio. There is no intimidation with a lot of other people working out right beside me & needing the weights or equipment that I am using. During the time that I have reserved, the equipment is just for me!

What’s your favorite thing about Swerve?

Bev: I know that both Josh & Jaryd care about all of their clients, including our families. We (Josh, Jaryd & clients) share stories & photos frequently at our workouts. We have watched each other’s kids & grandkids as they grow up. It’s like an extended family.

What’s your story? What brought you to Swerve?

Bev: Initially, I started to train for weight loss. That was 25 years ago. After losing the weight, I continued because I really enjoy the workouts & training helps me maintain the weight loss. As a woman, having the strength training gives me a sense of empowerment.

What are your goals with your workouts? What do you train for?

Bev: As I age, I want to be a healthy older woman. If I’m lucky enough to live a long life, I want to be able to remain very active. Now that I’m retired, I want to be able to do many of the things I’ve always done, within reason! I also want to be able to be able to enjoy & be active with our grandchildren, who are 6 & 3. They require a lot of energy, and so far, I think the training has me prepared for that!

What exercise do you loath?

Bev: The “Wheel of Death” ….aka the Ab Roller.

What exercise do you love?

Bev: I really enjoy boxing & the free weights. I like to be able to see the increase in the amount of weight or reps I can accomplish.

From the Trainer:

Bev is a very consistent client and very rarely ever misses a workout. She works hard and is willing to try new challenges and exercises. She also has a great personality and that makes it easy to work with her. She’s had to overcome some serious injuries from a previous car accident but she never complains. She just takes it in stride and we push her where we can and back off certain things if old injuries flare up. She seriously questions my ability to count to 10, but besides that I feel like she trusts me and knows I’m working to get her in her best shape!

This month’s Client Spotlight shines twice as bright for Jen & Dinah! Both of these girls have been training with Josh for over 13 years! 🤯 Dinah has completed 1,028 sessions during her time @ Swerve and Jen has completed 1,090 sessions!!! Way to go ladies! 💪 💪

Hear from the ladies in their own words:

How did you hear about Swerve?

D: I started with Josh at a previous location and moved with him when he started Swerve.

J: Through a friend. We go together now

What are your workouts at Swerve like?

D: Every one is different which is extremely impressive since I have been with him so long. We get such a mix of cardio, core and weights.

J: They are challenging and ever-changing and evolving. Josh is excellent at changing up the workouts so that there is a lot of variety. Never the same workout twice!

What’s it like working with Josh?

D: Josh is the best motivator and such a positive person. It makes working out a 6 am so much better with his energy. He keeps me on my toes and always challenges me.

J: Wonderful. He is a great trainer and an even better person. I recently struggled with 'me' time for the gym and with some much needed motivation, I got back on track and for that I am truly grateful.

What makes Swerve different than other studios/gyms/trainers you’ve been to?

D: You feel so comfortable walking in. You know that they are there to support you. They help correct form without making you feel like an idiot. For women, lifting weights is hard to start. You often don’t feel comfortable or confident in your moves and workouts. Josh does such a good job at making sure we are learning new moves regularly but most importantly doing them properly. He has made it so I feel confident working out anywhere.

J: Josh as a person and trainer. He always shows up for us! I like the small/home feel as well. The bigger gyms with a lot of people are very overwhelming for me personally so I feel very comfortable @ Swerve.

What’s your favorite thing about Swerve?

D: Josh and Jaryd. They are so welcoming. Even though I don’t workout with Jaryd he always has a smile and checks in with me. Josh has been one of my biggest supports and somebody I consider a good friend. He is so passionate about what he does and it’s reflected in every workout.

J: I don't know really. I like the variety of the workouts, the diversity of the clients that I have seen/met there and the guys that own it!

What’s your story? What brought you to Swerve?

D: Over 10 years ago I was ready to get into shape. Jen had a personal trainer but was looking for a change. I immediately reached out to Josh. We have been working out with Josh since. He has seen me through so many phases of weight loss and gain and has always helped in any way I needed him to to get me back on track. Without going to see him, I can only imagine how bad I would have gotten.

J: My story, kind of plain. A friend said she had been thinking of getting a trainer, this was 10 years ago, and asked if I would be interested in going with her. I had just gotten divorced the year before and was looking to sort of re-invent myself, or find myself if you will. I went and struggled the first few times, but it got easier and harder all at the same time. It allowed me to push myself without me comparing myself to anyone else since it was just me and Dinah and Josh. What brought me to Swerve? Josh - when he opened his own studio, I followed him.

What are your goals with your workouts? What do you train for?

D: The goal has always been to lose weight but the most important part has been to stay consistent with movement. I know that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy half the stuff I do without the consistency of working out. It is a standing appointment 3 days a week that I am committed to.

J: My goals these days are to maintain my weight, even lose weight. I also want to make sure I maintain my strength and mobility so that in 10 more years when I retire, I will be able to enjoy it to the fullest!

What exercise do you loath?

D: Burpees. They are better with the Bosu ball but my short arms make them harder.

J: Pistols and single leg burpees.

What exercise do you love?

D: Anything with weights or things that challenge me. Bench press is probably my favorite though. Probably because it’s my best 😊

J: Boxing! It is the best!

From the trainer:

Jen & Dinah have been my early am girls for the last 13 of my 19 years in fitness. They’ve been consistently training 3 times a week and have both eclipsed the 1,000 session mark with me! Both of these girls work hard to take care of themselves and put the time in. Jen drives from a good distance away early in the morning and commits and Dinah is the strongest female I’ve EVER worked with and has benched over 225lbs! Big strong! 💪 I am humbled by your kind words. It’s an honor to work with you both! 🫡

Our January Client Spotlight shines on Jean!!! Swerve is her happy place!!! 😃 💪 ❤️

How did you hear about Swerve?

I was a client at another training studio and followed Josh to Swerve.

What are your workouts like at Swerve ?

They are usually geared to my abilities. They are different every time I’m there! Josh usually has a better idea of what I can accomplish more so than I do. 😊

What’s it like working with Josh?

Working with Josh is awesome! I look forward to my workouts. He is patient with my lack of grace and balance. Very encouraging. He’s helped me build my confidence!

What makes Swerve different than other studios/gyms/trainers you’ve been to?

I love the personal sessions and I feel like at Swerve I’m only competing with myself to improve and not everyone else. 😀 I typically come in to my workouts feeling tired and achy from work and sometimes not in a good mood. By the time I’m done I’m always feeling better!

What’s your favorite thing about Swerve?

It’s my happy place! I feel great and it gets me in a better frame of mind. My workouts are challenging but still so much fun!

What’s your story? What brought you to Swerve?

My story starts with a very physically and mentally demanding job as a critical care nurse. Combine that with a disabled son that requires a lot of lifting. So, I decided that if I wanted to continue caring for my patients and my child that I needed to start taking care of myself. Swerve was recommended and I decided to try it to make myself accountable to me. And that was a few years ago!

What are your goals with your workouts? What do you train for?

My goals with my workouts are to consistently be able to stay injury free and someday run a half marathon and cross that off my bucket list!

What exercise do you loath?

Really?!? You have to ask?!! Burpees! In any shape or form!

What exercise do you love?

Basically all of them except burpees!

From the Trainer:

I’ve worked with Jean for a long time. She has always been very consistent with her workouts and willing to try new things in our routines. I have a lot of respect for her and her motivation to stay strong and take care of her patients and her family. I have a brother that is disabled and I am in awe of how resilient the families in that community can be. It is a full-time job on top of a full-time job and that deserves all the appreciation and respect in the world. I value my time with Jean and am honored to help keep her strong so she can keep her family strong! 💪

Our December Client Spotlight shines on Scott!

How did you hear about Swerve?

My wife, Aida, is the one who got me started with Josh at Swerve. We worked out together for a while before I transitioned to working out solo.

What are your workouts at Swerve like?

That’s a tough one to answer because every workout is different and I don’t know in advance what I will be doing that day. Some days are easier than others, and the hard days are not TOO hard. Most workouts involved strength training, with some cardio mixed in. We do it all: upper body, legs, core, usually with an emphasis on one or two of these areas each workout.

What’s it like working out with Josh?

It’s fun! He gives me a huge variety of exercises. I have been working out with him for seven years, and he still finds new exercises for me all the time. We also have fun talking about sports or music or whatever is going on.

What makes Swerve different than other studios/gyms/trainers you’ve been to?

Swerve is my first and only studio. There have been times in my life when I’ve gone to the gym on my own on a regular basis, but its hard to keep the motivation up over the years.

What’s your favorite thing about Swerve?

The fun atmosphere and the variety of exercises.

What’s your story? What brought you to Swerve?

I had stopped working out and my wife convinced me that I would be happier if I started exercising regularly. She was right.

What are your goals with your workouts? What do you train for?

I don’t have a specific goal, I just want to stay in shape.

What exercise do you loath?

Anything that involves getting on and off the floor repeatedly, such as burpees.

What exercise do you love?

I don’t love any of them, they are hard work! But I do like to see how many pushups I can do every once in a while.

From the Trainer:

It’s been an honor to work with Scott and his family over the years. His wife might be the best boxer I’ve ever trained with 🥊! And one of his daughters isn’t too far behind her Mom in that category 🥊 🥊 !!
I have a deep appreciation for Scott’s relentless attitude to keep his fitness a focul point no matter what setback might come his way. He works hard when in-studio and always has a great and positive attitude! He always has challenges he wants to achieve and he’s very dialed into his workouts. Currently, he’s my top male client when it comes to hammering out push-up’s 🔨 ! Not bad, considering he’s one of my tallest clients and has such a long wingspan! 🪽 🪽 I’m blessed to have the opportunity to work with such great clients like Scott and his family!

Swerve’s November Spotlight shines on client Barb Pritchard!

How did you hear about Swerve?

“I worked with Josh at Kinex and joined Swerve when it opened.”

What are your workouts at Swerve like?

“The workouts at Swerve get my muscles moving and give me more strength to do everyday activities.”

What’s it like working with Josh?

“Josh is so fun to work with. He's always upbeat and positive.”

What makes Swerve different than other studios/gyms/trainers you’ve been to?

“I like the fact that Swerve is a small studio, which allows the trainers to give more personal one-on-one interaction. With only two people working out at the same time, there's not a lot of other noise and distractions.”

What’s your favorite thing about Swerve?

“Josh. When I'm in-studio, it's very comfortable. I like the fact that Josh offers workouts over Zoom.”

What’s your story? What brought you to Swerve?

“I'm a person that uses a motorized wheelchair. It's important for me to not lose my range of motion, and to keep my muscles as strong as possible.”

What are your goals with your workouts? What do you train for?

“I want to continue to be as flexible and strong as possible. We are working on healing a shoulder injury. I need to stay active and move, to be able to maintain or reduce my weight.”

What exercise do you loathe?

“I wouldn't say I loathe "flys," but they've become harder for me to do since I injured my shoulder.”

What exercise do you love?

“I love boxing and twists. I also know that my stomach muscles have gotten much stronger by doing situps.”

From the trainer:

“It’s awesome to get to work with Barb. She’s very determined to maintain and improve her strength and flexibility. We have trained together for years and she never skipped a beat, even during the pandemic when we transitioned to zoom workouts. Training 4 plus times per week requires a lot of dedication and effort. But she’s very consistent with her workouts and if a scheduling conflict ever does come up, she always works to make up those sessions. Barb definitely inspires me as a trainer but also in working to care of my own fitness. No excuses for the hand life has dealt her. Just work to improve her life and most incredibly dedicating her life to improving the lives of others within the disability community!!”-Josh
