The correct answer to this question is.......

TRUE

In this study, researchers had 10 non-resistance trained males train their biceps using two different exercises 2 times per week for 8-weeks

They trained one of their arms using a multijoint exercise (dumbbell row) and the other arm using a single-joint exercise (dumbbell biceps curl)

Both exercises were completed with 8-12 repetitions and each of the 4-6 sets were taken to concentric failure

Also, both exercises were done with a 10-RM load (this means that the loads were standardized between the two exercises such that one exercise wasn’t done with a relatively higher load than the other exercise)

At the end of the 8-week study, it was reported that the biceps curl arm gained significantly more muscle mass (11%) as compared to the dumbbell row arm (5%)

2 thoughts about this study

#1: These findings make sense. A DB biceps curl placed 100% of the effort to move the dumbbell on the biceps muscle—and therefore there is likely more mechanical tension on the biceps

#2: While the dumbbell row exercise did not cause as much muscle growth as the single-joint biceps curl, there was still some very good gains in muscle thickness in the biceps with the dumbbell row exercise

Making sure your workout program isn’t the only thing necessary in order to helping you reach your goals, but so is your nutrition.
One of the biggest things that we hear is how it’s hard it is, to not only get protein in during our mornings, but just eating/consuming the nutrients we need to start our day.
Here is a great example of what we could start our mornings off with, so we not only get good protein in, but making sure we’re eating right in the mornings.
Let’s us know how this helped you! If you’re struggling with your programming, getting started, staying accountable or nutrition, leave us a comment, DM or stop by the personal training desk for more information on how we can help you reach your goals!

The biggest question we must ask ourselves is, are we getting the most out of our workouts and truly achieving our goals.
Or are we just coming to the gym and doing a bunch of nonsense that’s just going to leave us spinning our wheels.
If you noticed that you’re not seeing anymore improvements, unsure if your plan is truly fit for you, consuming the proper amount of food or even creating a plan, leave us a comment, DM or stop by the personal training desk for more information on how we can help you reach your goals!

NEAT
What is it and why is it important?
Well to start, NEAT stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. And one of the reasons for why it’s so important is because it can enhance your lifestyle and the way people expend their energy throughout the day.
Doing simple things as parking farther away at the store, causing you to walk farther to and from your car to the store can help increase your NEAT. If your someone who has kids just going outside and playing with them will allow you to increase your NEAT. And one other example would be just taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
In studies it’s found that people with a higher NEAT are typically healthier due to having a more active lifestyle, that doesn’t include being in a gym or doing intense cardio sessions.
Obviously increasing your NEAT expenditure is going to help you reach goals that we may have, but we must remember that we still need to keep up our nutrition and fitness routines to help us reach our goals!

As Ben Franklin once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”
No matter what your fitness goal is, one of the most critical things you’ll need to focus on is your food intake. Making sure we’re either in a calorie surplus or calorie deficit.
Now does this mean we have to eat perfect 100% of the time, no. If we eat 80% of the time good and 20% of the time as “fun food” we can still see good results.
If you are needing help with your nutrition, getting out of being stuck in a rut, staying accountable to both your program or nutrition, leave us a comment, DM or stop by the personal training desk for more information on how we can help you reach your goals!
