Unicoi Outfitters Fishing Report 6/12/26

The heat and humidity are hammering our area and making things a lot tougher on both fish and fishers. At least we see some cooler temperatures forecast for next week. Right now these hot days and skimpy rainfall totals have trout stream temps skyrocketing. Hit higher elevations before lunch for stockers and little wild fish, or park yourselves below Blue Ridge or Buford dams for cooler and happier trout.

Bass and bream like this warmer water and are still cooperating, while stripers are evacuating to cooler waters deep in reservoirs or way up the rivers. It’s a good time for some river floats!

Several folks took long road or plane trips to distant locales and shared some great fish stories and pics with us.

Locally, tomorrow is a free fishing day in GA and some kids fishing events are on the DNR calendar.

Thanks to everyone who joined us last Friday for UO’s first community gathering of the summer. Plenty of burgers, dogs, and fish stories were shared among guests and staff.

We really enjoyed special guest Ryan from Vermont, who stopped in for some local intel. You can follow Ryan’s angling journey through America as he produces the film, Tales of the 48 ().

Unicoi Outfitters Fishing Report 6/5/26

A rainless week now has our trout waters low and clear and our bass rivers slowly clearing. Wild trout, stockers, and even private water fish were on fire, thanks to an atypical run of cool weather that knocked down water temps. Pond fishing was also hot, while we’ve had no news from reservoir fans.

The first week of June is National Fishing Week and GADNR offers two free fishing days, so introduce a friend to fishing for free! We have the events list in our full report.

We will be closed on Tuesday June 2nd for a staff fishing day. The shops will reopen at 8am on Wednesday the 3rd.

Don’t forget our social gathering on Friday evening this week from 5:30-8pm. We are gonna be grilling up some burgers and dogs and having a good time hanging out and talking fishing at the Sautee shop. It’s gonna be a good time!
