🏒 30 YEARS OF BIG BEAR — FACT #5! 🐻🥅

Did you know Big Bear has two different-sized ice rinks?! 🏒❄️

One rink is Olympic-sized, while the other is a regulation/NHL-sized sheet!

Random facts for the NHL-Sized sheet (85'x200'); it takes 10,000 gallons of water to make a 1" sheet of ic...it also takes 15 miles of refridgeration tubing to operate the NHL and 20 miles for the OLY Rink (100'x200')!

That means more room to skate, practice, and play! 🏒⛸️🔥

Two rinks. One roof. 🏒🏒

Did you know? Big Bear Arena is home to two ice surfaces under one roof, making it a unique destination among Upper Peninsula ice arenas! ❄️

Having two rinks allows us to keep one sheet of ice open year-round! 🙌 This also means that every year, we rotate which rink is shut down for the summer for maintenance and improvements.

From hockey games and tournaments to skating, practices, and community events, our two rinks have been keeping the ice busy for 30 years! 🏒⛸️

BIG Bear really is BIG! 👀

Did you know? Big Bear Arena encompasses approximately 150,000 square feet! 🤯 It took 69,000 concrete blocks, 150,000 lineal feet of drywall, and 750 ton of structural steel to build the facility.

That’s a whole lot of space for hockey, skating, events, programs, recreation, and 30 years of community memories! 🏒⛸️🎉

The facility’s name, Chi Mukwa, is Ojibwe langauge for “Big Bear.” 🐻

For 30 years, Big Bear Arena has been a place where our community has come together to play, compete, celebrate, and make memories. ❤️
