🚶♀️🌳 MEET MY WALKING FRIEND AND HEAR HER MESSAGE FOR ALL OF US:
We’ve passed each other many times on the trail, and this summer we started stopping to talk about life, health, and the importance of moving our bodies.
She is 94 years old, and she is an inspiration.
One morning as we passed, she said, “Gosh, I sure wish I could walk and swing my arms at the same time like you do.”
I laughed and told her, “My kids think I look crazy when I'm on my walks!” 😂
She explained that her balance isn’t great anymore, so she can either walk with her arms at her sides or stand and move her arms, but not do both at the same time.
That led us to a conversation about movement. When I told her I teach wellness to people of all ages, she said:
“Please tell them to move their bodies as much as they can and DON’T STOP!”
She cleaned houses and until she was 87 years old, often down on her hands and knees scrubbing floors and helped people with their gardens.
At 94, she still goes on walks every single day.
So, I’m passing along her message:
❤️ Keep moving.
❤️ Use your joints.
❤️ Practice getting up and down from the floor.
❤️ Walk, stretch, bend and reach as long as you’re able.
I look forward to our little trail meetings. Sometimes they’re brief, sometimes we talk awhile, but I always learn something new.
To my young 94-year-old walking friend...thank you for your wisdom and for showing up for yourself every single day.
You certainly are an inspiration.
Keep moving. Keep showing up. And enjoy the journey.
