Hey fish families! As the summer is getting into full swing, I just wanted to remind every one that the color of your swim suit matters! Check out the guide for what colors work the best for the lake and pool!

This is a great safety guide for children swimming in lakes and swimming pools. The color of the bathing suit can make it easier or more difficult to see children while they are swimming. This is a good reminder to always have adult supervision when children are swimming. (Thanks to Praire Lakes Healthcare System.)

Hello families! Long time, no fin 🐠

After long thought, and countless times of trying to make a schedule, I have decided to not teach lessons this summer in Sauk Centre.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may bring. I truly wish I could teach this summer, but ultimately the fish fins were not in my favor for making it work to go back home to teach.

I have every intention of opening Greta’s Guppies back up again in the future! My plans for what the future of Greta’s Guppies will look like has not changed. I am merely taking a tiny break to focus on my current career, so that in the future I can give Greta’s Guppies my full attention.

Thank you to all of the families who have come through Greta’s Guppies the past couple years. I truly love each and every one of my students and wish you all the best. 🩵

Hello families! Long time, no fin 🐟
Here is the long awaited winter lessons update:

Unfortunately, I will no longer be teaching winter lessons as I have moved down to the cities for my new job.

As some of you may or may not know, I work full time for the Minnesota National Guard. I love being in the military, but I also love teaching guppies from all over Central MN, which is why I plan to still offer summer lessons.

I have an idea of how I will structure the lessons, but ultimately the finals decisions won’t be made until spring of 2024. These lessons will be very limited, but I will try my best to get as many guppies in my school as possible!

The 2023 summer season has ‘oh-fish-ally’ come to an end and all I have to say is, THANK YOU! 🐠

This season has been the most memorable one yet and I truly had a lot of fun! Here’s a little recap of the summer….

Weekly fish puns:
Week 1 - “these guppies did ex-squid-sit! 🦑”
Week 2 - “these guppies did fish-tastic! 🐟”
Week 3 - “these little guppies are jaw-some at swimming! 🦈”
Week 4 - “let’s shell-abrate these guppies on a great week! 🐚”
Week 5 - “these guppies are whaley good at swimming! 🐋”
Week 6 - “these guppies did fin-rific 🐟”
Week 7 - “these guppies did turtle-ly awesome! 🐢”
Week 8 - “these guppies are seal-iously good at swimming! 🦭”
Week 9 - “these guppies are dolphin-itely great at swimming! 🐬”

Number of sessions taught: 94
Hours spent in the pool: roughly 40 hours per week

• I’ve learned that some students think I’m still in high school while others think I’m 45 years old….😐😅

• Some students liked to come to lessons with temporary tattoos or marker drawings on their arms so they can have a tattoo “…just like Miss Greta”.

•I was asked multiple times about this….no, there is not a shark in the pool

• Each and every guppie progressed during their lessons. This progression ranged from being comfortable with just sitting on the steps to learning flip turns and dives!

I’m truly thankful for this summer and all of my students! I love each and every one of them, no matter how their lesson went or how their skill set progressed.

Week 9 is complete and these guppies are
‘dolphin-itely’ great at swimming! 🐬

This week was all about survival swimming, front crawl/freestyle, and treading water for as long as they could! Each guppy this week surpassed at least 20 seconds treading water and a good chunk of them made it to 2 minutes!

Week 8 is completed and these guppies are
’seal-iously’ good at swimming! 🦭

This week was all about stroke swimming for longer distances, treading water, and becoming comfortable with the water! Each guppy improved greatly over the course of the week!

I want to give a little shout out to a few of my older guppies!

Over the last few weeks these three guppies have had the opportunity to do their lessons at the Sauk Centre School pool. They were able to learn and perfect standing dives, kneeling dives, feet first surface dives, and surface dives! They were also able to get more experience in a larger pool and doing their skills for a longer yardage.

Each guppies skill set improved and I couldn’t be more proud! They challenged themself and accomplished everything that was taught to them!

Week 7 is wrapped up and these guppies did
‘turtle-ly’ awesome! 🐢

This week was all about treading water, tickle tee touch, survival float, and flip flops! Each student progressed immensely throughout the week!

I was also instructed by Mr. Chase to tell EVERYONE that he made it to 100 seconds in treading water today! I want to give a shout out to the students this week as almost every single one made it well past 30 seconds with their treading water. Each student set a goal for themself and they CRUSHED it!

That’s a wrap on week 6 and these guppies did
‘fin-riffic’! 🐟

This week was all about treading water, survival float, and being comfortable with being in the water by ourself! Each guppie progressed in their swimming skills and it was awesome to see them becoming more confident as the week went on.

This week was all about conquering fears, becoming comfortable with swimming by ourself, and learning/perfecting basic skills and strokes.
