Does it get any more authentic than a reproduction of the 1825 “BASS-BALL” challenge in Hamden, NY, printed with the same hand-set printer as the original Delhi Gazette newspaper 200 years ago! Many thanks to Collin Miller for sending this to us for display in our archive.

It’s ephemera like this that keeps us grounded in the game’s history and deepens our connection to this project.

We had a fantastic time at the Doc Adams Old Time Base Ball Festival at Old Bethpage Village Restoration!

We were honored to play a match against the Eckford BBC, and after a hard-fought battle, the Bricks came out ahead with a final score of 6-4! The Eckfords were originally founded by former Saugerties resident and early base ball pioneer Frank Pidgeon—who our club proudly honors each year at our Pidgeon Pennant—making this a truly special matchup.

We also had a back-and-forth contest with the Providence Grays that ended 8-4 in favor of the Grays. We’re always excited to see our friends from Rhode Island. They’re true ambassadors of the game, and we’ve learned so much from playing against them. We look forward to many more meetings on the field.

We rounded out the festival with spirited matches against Mutual Base Ball Club of New York and Atlantic Base Ball Club —two of the most historic and long tenured clubs in vintage base ball. While they bested us, the Bricks fought hard until the final hand was out.

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend. Spending time together as a club and playing the game we love while honoring this early chapter in base ball’s historic story made for memories we won’t soon forget. Many thanks to the organizers who make this event possible!
