A Tarpon Fly Fishing Operation stablished in Panamá. Long time friends, we have been fly fishing Chilean Patagonia (our home) for more than three decades. With the years we’ve developed a passion for exploring new techniques, looking for success in challenging fishing situations, some times resulting in memorable strikes, landings and releases and most of the times resulting in pure fun and rejoic
e. In this peruse of our passion we have also gone far from home, exploring many places around the world and done many kinds of fly fishing. Only a few places besides Patagonia have really caught our attention. Panamá is one of those few places. One day, exploring inland waters at the pacific coast of Panamá, we found a place that we never imagined existed (not even in our wildest Patagonian dreams). A place where we could “hunt” for feeding tarpon just as we do for big brown trout, but ten times de size and strength. Nothing compared to be drifting down the river, observing how 20 to 60 lb fish freely fed on the banks, hunting in pockets, behind a log, under a tree, just like a big brown would do at home. But then only the perfect cast, presentation and retrieve, would produce a follow and right after that, the sensation of your fly being stopped by a train.
-"Adrenalin flows so high, that after everything is finished, one starts to feel the pain in the wrists, back, hands and fingers, but you can't take that smile out of our face"-
Having experienced this dream fly fishing playground, we returned, and returned again for a complete year in order to prove our theory: - Tarpon, Sizes 10 to 80 lb, live and feed in this waters all year round. They are not exploring, they are not cruising by, they are there, eating and gaining weight before migrating to the Ocean-
After more than a year and having returned in every weather condition and in every season, we can safely say that this population of fish are there, every month of the year. Which makes it one of the most exiting places to fish. That is why we imported boats, hired professionals, made Hotels our trusting partners, and created Caña Brava Expeditions, so now other passionate anglers like us can experience what's out there.
