On behalf of the Saratoga Barbell Club, thank you so much to all the area athletes for participating in the 518 Summer Showdown on July 9th!
This was our first summer showdown since 2019, in our new home at the Lake George CrossFit. We are happy with how the competition layout worked in the gym space. Having a large women’s session of 17 lifters there was plenty of room and equipment in the warm-up area. The flow to the card table and competition platform allowed for coaches to keep a close eye on both athlete and competition. The spectator area had 50 seats that were full for nearly the entire event.
The athletes put on a very good display of Olympic weightlifting and showed that the 518 has a healthy and strong weighting community! The women’s session was the definition of consistency with a total of only 4 missed lifts in the entire sn**ch session. The men’s session was smaller in attendance but also displayed some solid weightlifting with newcomers to the platform as well as some up and coming area lifters.

We received many positive comments from the staff, parents, and community members about the experience the competition was for everyone who attended, especially the new lifters. Our success was in no small part due to our sponsors and volunteers!
