NYC is amongst the first cities to ban sales of electric bikes without UL certification, after numerous fires and injuries caused by malfunctions of poor quality and construction of electric bike components. The new law requires ebikes systems to be certified to the UL 2849 standard.

Ebike parts such as the battery, motor, display unit and the charger make up a complex electrical system, obtaining the UL certification is an involved and lengthy process that evaluates the entire system and tests for electrical and fire safety. Electrical and fire safety certifications though commonly required for home electrical devices is still a voluntary process for electric bike manufacturers, many brands chose to bypass this important step due to the cost and time requirement associated with the lengthy process.

At Shoreline Ebikes we have been practicing this principle since opening our doors to customers. We only stock brands with the UL certified Bosch Ebike System. The safety of our customers is of utmost importance, and thus we chose to only stock electric bikes that are properly tested and safe for everyday use.
