Most parents watch a junior miss a forehand and see a swing problem. Usually it's the feet. They arrived late, the body was still drifting, and the contact point ended up behind the player. Good ball striking starts from the ground up.

That's why we teach footwork as its own skill at SRQ Tennis, using the David Bailey Method and his Golden 12 movement patterns. A kid who knows the patterns stops guessing and starts arriving on time. We build it in the right order, drill it in live ball, and track it with real numbers.

The 11-to-16 group is built around match play, point construction, and tactical decision-making. We teach Mistakes Math (one mistake costs three points minimum), build a Between-Point Routine, and use live-ball progressions so the work transfers to actual matches — not just to practice.

Parents ask me this all the time: what size tennis racket does my 8 year old need? Short version, most land on a 25 inch frame, but height beats age every time. Here is the home test I use. Have your child stand with arms down and let the racket hang next to their leg. The cap should sit near the floor with fingertips reaching the top of the frame. Too long and they swing late and miss the center of the strings. Get the size right and clean contact gets easier while they are still learning it. You don't need a private club to give your kid great court time in Sarasota. Public parks work just fine, and most of them are free. Parents ask me this every week at Potter Park and Pineview: group lessons or private lessons for my kid? Both work. They just do different jobs. A group gives your junior live ball, real rallies, and other kids to compete against, for less per hour. A private gives focused time to fix one thing fast, with video when it helps.
