The issue isn’t that people are busy or active. It’s that structured fitness is treated like it’s optional. This isn’t about choosing the gym over your family, your job, your hobbies, or your life. It’s about recognizing that your health is the foundation everything else is built on. If you don’t brush your teeth, you’ll probably get cavities. If you don’t train your body, you’ll probably develop chronic disease. Fitness isn’t extra. It’s maintenance.

Your hobbies ARE the reason you should be training. Strength and conditioning are what allow you to keep doing those things long term. That is not to say mountain biking, skiing, running, and hiking are not worth doing - they obviously are, but you don’t need to choose between the gym and your hobbies. You do both.

Murph is a CrossFit Hero workout that stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who died heroically in the line of duty in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.

Think about brushing your teeth. You don’t wake up and decide if you feel like doing it. You don’t skip it for a few months because you got busy. You don’t tell yourself you’ll start again on Monday. You just do it. Not because it’s fun—but because it’s necessary. That’s how fitness should be. It doesn’t need to feel exciting every day. It just needs to be something you do.

Some days we lift weights. Some days we run. Some days we do both. Everyone who showed up to Back Squat on Tuesday lifted weight that was “heavy” for them. Meaning some people squatted 45 lbs whereas some people were well over 300 lbs. Lifting heavy is important no matter your fitness level.
