Infant Swimming Resource's Self-Rescue™ technique is the safest provider of survival swimming lessons for children from six months to six years. Infant Swimming Resource’s Self-Rescue survival swimming program is a -6 week course, scheduled 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, for 10 minutes each day. With a focus on safe, customized, one-on-one lessons by certified Instructors, ISR’s survival

swimming lessons emphasize health, ongoing program evaluations and parent education to deliver the most effective and safest results in the industry. Children may begin lessons at 6 months of age until 6 years of age. Lessons for a 6-12 month old focus on teaching the child to roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and to be able to maintain this life-saving position until help arrives. Lessons for children 1-6 years old focus on teaching the swim-float-swim survival sequence. Children learn to swim with their head down; roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe; and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool, where they can either crawl out or until they can be rescued. Once the children are fully skilled they will practice ISR’s survival techniques fully clothed during lessons. It is recommended that children complete refresher lessons to help their in-water skill level grow with their physical development.

My toddler recently started ISR swim lessons to learn water safety. If you're on the fence about ISR, here's my honest review.

LETS TALK WATER SAFETY!

The leading cause of death for children ages 1–4 isn’t a disease—it’s injury. And among those injuries, DROWNING is one of the leading causes of death for young children, often happening quickly and silently in home pools or nearby water.

A recent study published in Injury Prevention highlights the significant burden that injuries place on children and adolescents in the United States and emphasizes the urgent need for stronger prevention strategies and safer environments for kids. Preventable injuries continue to claim thousands of young lives each year.

The encouraging part: many of these tragedies are preventable with layered safety strategies.

Evidence-based approaches include:
• Constant, close supervision around water
• Four-sided pool fencing and barriers that separate pools from the home
• Survival swim lessons that teach young children how to roll onto their backs, float, and breathe if they fall into water
• Continued Swim lessons and water competency as children grow
• CPR training for parents and caregivers
• Community and policy efforts that prioritize child injury prevention

No single layer is enough on its own. But together, supervision, barriers, and water-survival skills can dramatically reduce risk.
Children depend on adults to create safe environments. Awareness and prevention can save lives.
