The Rock Ice & Mountain Club serves the climbing and outdoor community of the North San Francisco Bay Area.

We invite speakers to show us there latest adventures at our monthly meetings, are active in climbing stewardship, and organize trips. The Rock Ice & Mountain Club serves the outdoor adventure community of the North San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. It was started in 1994 as a resource to bring like-minded people together. The club organizes trips and campsites for members at local crags, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Red Rocks, Joshua Tree, and Pinnacles, plus trail work and cleanup days in local parks. Free monthly gatherings are held on the first Tuesday of every month and feature a presentation by inspiring local adventurers, world class athletes, writers, and photographers. The meetings are open to the public and begin at 7:30pm at Round Table Pizza, 2065
Occidental Road, just off Highway 12 in Santa Rosa. Membership is $20 per year for an individual and $25 for a family.

November 3: Steve Curtis – Developing Routes in Okinawa and Climbing Tales from Japan and Korea

Steve Curtis returns with yet another presentation from one of his many international climbing trips. This one is from 1999-2003 where Steve lived in Okinawa, Japan as an inspector for the United States Air Force. He travelled to Japan and Korea about five time each and would climb on weekends. He found great partners and climbing areas in each country.

Rock Ice & Mountain Club Rock Ice & Mountain Club and Women’s Lead Club Women’s Lead Club members enjoyed a great weekend in the Pinecrest area climbing at the Gianelli Edges and Mill Creek Mastiff areas and camping at the Pioneer Trail group campsite.

The weather was great, although cold in the shade as we jammed cold fingers and hands into awesome cracks at the Genesis wall. Climbs in the Millcreek area were sunny and warm.

October 16-19: PINECREST CAMPOUT

This trip is open to all past and current members of the Rock Ice & Mountain Club, members of the Women’s Lead Club and all staff and now members at Session Climbing.

We have reserved three nights at the Pioneer Trail Group Camp in Pinecrest, CA for Friday-Monday, October 16-19, 2026. The beautiful area of Pinecrest on the Sonora Pass Highway has incredible outdoor activities including numerous climbing crags, mountain biking, hiking and boating on Pinecrest Lake. The Pioneer Trail Group Camp is a nice group camp that can accommodate 50 people. October can provide either perfect fall weather or we may feel the start of winter when we are there.

Our friend and local photographer Vegar Abelsnes Photography currently has a photo exhibit at WATERSHED 1st Street Gallery in Petaluma.

Vegar will be giving a talk on October 10th at 3pm. There will also be a speciast guest presentation by John McKeon on November 7th. He is the Founder and Chairman of Polar Latitudes Expeditions, and former Chair of the Executive Committee of IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators), with 30 years of Antarctic travel under his belt.

Featured Presentation: “Science, the environment, and the future of Antarctic travel”.

October 6: Steve Schwortz – Lessons of a Lifer

Some of us are lifers – climbers for life. What does it mean to stick with this lifestyle for decades? What lessons can it teach us? What does it cost us? What do we gain? Half climbing guide, half anthropology professor and full time “mayor of the moderates” – Steve Steve Schwortz will take 30 years of climbing lessons and turn them into entertaining stories.
