Hey Everyone,

It’s been a minute since we’ve been out on the track with all of you, but unfortunately I am here to bring some sad news. Ryan and I have decided to step away from SMKA and the organization of the SMKA Motorcycle Only Track Days.

Since the beginning of 2019 when we started with shared track days with karts, our main goal was to provide a safe place for all of you to ride, learn, train, and have a great time meeting new people in a stress free environment. We strived to be different from the other track day organizations and always wanted to make sure that you left with a smile on your face and the desire to come back.

With that being said, during this break from the track, in hopes that the track surface would come around after having multiple karting events held, we handpicked a very small group of riders, with varying riding experiences, to walk the track and assess the current condition. Our findings were not acceptable. With safety as priority on our minds, we determined that the current track conditions would lead to multiple crashes, thus leading the karting association to continue to blame track damage on the motorcycles as they have in the past.

Our break was not only to wait for the surface to build back up, but to prove that the motorcycles were not the root cause of the damage that occurs on the track. The current track conditions that we assessed are not up to our safety standards to provide you with a safe place to ride and train. Ryan and I cannot bring ourselves to encourage amateur riders to come out to the track knowing that the surface is very slick and potentially dangerous to new riders. We have also been contacted by kart racers and drivers who have been to this track for years who have expressed to us that the track surface is not up to par for what we need to ensure safe riding conditions.

For all the time and effort that we put in over the years, I truly hope this is not the end of motorcycles at SMKA, but it is the end for Ryan and I as organizers as there are other issues that are beyond our control. For information regarding whether or not SMKA will continue to allow motorcycle events to occur, you guys can contact them at [email protected].

For those of you that continue to attend other tracks, Ryan and I will have some track gear to give away if anyone needs it. Suits, boots, gloves and helmets that were donated to us for new riders. We'd like to pay it forward and donate them back out if anyone needs them.

Caleb Lopez has reached out to me tonight and wanted me to mention that he has suits of all sizes, along with tons of gloves, boots, sliders, a few helmets, and miscellaneous track items that are for sale. He also has (2) super clean Honda 50's, (1) KTM 70 that's a rocket, a Honda 125 that only has a few hours on it, along with an enclosed trailer that houses all of the bikes for sale. If anyone is interested in Caleb's collection, you can make an offer and give him a call or text at (805) 234-1246.

Finally, Ryan and I would like to thank EVERYONE that we met and made friends with over the years that helped and joined us on this great adventure that we had at this small track. From teaching 5 year olds the basics of 2 wheels and their parents having a hard time getting them off the bike at the end of the day, to watching 75+ year old riders get in their suits to ride and reminisce. To the on track battles, the laughter, the crashes that named corners, the disputes and resolutions that led to friendships, The NSRmy, The Outlaw 88's, the massive thunder of a packed 450 race, to the sounds of angry bees from a group of mini 2-strokes. I could go on and on, but I have to say, this was an experience of a lifetime that we will never forget. And we can't forget about Bob Dixon! Thanks Bob for being our flagger from the beginning! I hope nothing but the best for all of you guys!

Ride safe out there everyone,
~Ashley

Hey Everyone,
As I am sure you have all seen and/or heard, SMKA has resurfaced the track and even removed and replaced parts of it. They are also in the midst of doing a LOT of improvements to the surrounding area including the parking/pit area, bleachers and more. As excited as we are about the improvements, we are also working out of an abundance of caution for our riders and looking to see what the new surface brings. That being said, and with a mind toward safety, we are postponing our Motorcycle Only days at least through the summer to not only let the track come around but to also assess impacts of motorcycles and karts on the surface. The track has always been notoriously slick for motorcycles and with this new surface, having no rubber and no wear on it, it is only going to enhance that issue. Over the next 4-6 months, with the kart club doing multiple races and outside karting events coming in as well, it is our hope the new surface becomes better than ever. As always, we will keep all of you updated with how things are going. Ryan and I will periodically walk the track and take photos to assess the track to see how the surface is shaping up. We know this will be a disappointment for all of our riders, as it is for us as well, however this is what we feel is going to be best for motorcycles and to keep everyone safe for future events. With all of this about the track surface being said, we will continue enforcing the use of foot peg sliders and will be an absolute requirement for this track. No sliders, no riding. If you have any questions about where to get them or what can be used, please contact us for guidance. Please share this with friends and family that might not be on this mailing list or might not be on social media. We appreciate all your support over the years and we will see you all after our summer break.
Ride safe out there, everyone!

Hey Everyone,
Unfortunately, our February 14th Motorcycle Only Track Day has been cancelled. The Karting Association is doing some track construction, repaving, and repairs and don't anticipate it being finished in time for our track day. With that said, our next track day will be Saturday, March 14th. Please let everyone know. If you know riders that are not on this email list or do not have Facebook, please let them know that February's event has been cancelled. I would hate to see someone make the drive here only to get to a locked gate. We look forward to the updates at the facility and will let you guys know if there are any other date changes that may occur. Until then, ride safe out there and we will see you all in March!
