At Bright Star Martial Arts, we change lives through fitness, martial arts, and therapeutic services and programs for people with special needs. Established in 2010, our Taekwondo program trains the mind and body to perform at one's best. We offer an inclusive place to grow, and a unique service to support personal development for both typical and special needs students alike. Bright Star is the only adaptive physical education martial arts facility in Santa Clarita and beyond, offering a full complement of programs for virtually any student. Great News about SDP's from the California Department of Developmental Services...

Dear Community Member,

The Department of Developmental Services has exciting news to share with you. California’s Self-Determination Program (SDP) Medi-Cal Waiver has been approved for five more years by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

This great news was made possible thanks to the hard work and support of our whole community.

What this means for you?

The main parts of the SDP and your rights as a participant will continue without changes.

What is changing?

California can continue to offer the SDP for five more years, and it now is authorized to support more people. We also will continue to receive federal funding for the SDP, through June 30, 2031.

Thank you to the individuals, families, advocates, regional centers, providers, and community partners who commented on the draft waiver renewal application, and supported its approval by CMS. Your voices and commitment have helped continue the SDP!

El Departamento de Servicios de Desarrollo tiene excelentes noticias que compartir con usted. Los Centros Federales de Servicios de Medicare y Medicaid (CMS) han aprobado la exención de Medi-Cal del programa de autodeterminacion de California (SDP) por cinco años más.

Esta gran noticia ha sido posible gracias al arduo trabajo y al apoyo de toda nuestra comunidad.

¿Qué significa esto para usted?

Los aspectos principales del SDP y sus derechos como participante continuarán sin cambios.

¿Qué va a cambiar?

California podrá seguir ofreciendo el SDP durante cinco años más y ahora está autorizada a atender a un mayor número de personas. Asimismo, seguiremos recibiendo financiación federal para el SDP hasta el 30 de junio de 2031.

Gracias a las personas, familias, defensores, centros regionales, prestadores de servicios y miembros de la comunidad que han aportado sus comentarios sobre el proyecto de solicitud de renovación de la exención y han apoyado su aprobación por parte de los CMS. ¡Sus opiniones y su compromiso han contribuido a que el SDP pueda continuar!
