A small dare for your Friday paddle: leave the phone in the truck. I know. The sunset's going to be ridiculous and part of your brain is already framing the shot. And sure, every now and then the water hands you something that earns a photo. But try this once. Lock the phone in the glovebox, push off with empty pockets, let the water be the only screen for an hour.
Weird thing is what you start noticing. The temperature line where the warm surface water meets the cold underneath. The heron that's been trailing you for ten minutes. The exact second the light tips over into gold. Nothing buzzing against your leg. No quick check. Just you and the glide and the week sliding off your shoulders one stroke at a time.
