WCGC Thursday Summer Trap League Update

As we dive deeper into the summer season, we are excited to report that the WCGC Thursday Summer Trap League is thriving! Your enthusiastic participation has created an environment of camaraderie and competition that makes each Thursday a highlight of our week.

We want to remind everyone that registration is flexible—you can join for the entire season or just week-to-week! Whether you want to participate in every session or drop by for just one week, we welcome you to be a part of this fantastic experience.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our incredible volunteers and RSOs. Your unwavering dedication and hard work behind the scenes play a crucial role in making the Trap League not only possible but also enjoyable for everyone involved. From setting up the range to ensuring safety protocols are followed, your efforts do not go unnoticed.

Friends, family members, and spectators are more than welcome to join us, adding to the fun and excitement! All skill levels are encouraged to participate, so whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting, there's a place for you here.

In addition to the thrill of competition, we are excited to announce weekly prizes and the chance to receive a free WCGC hat for participants!

REMINDER: SUMMER EQUINOX
Pursuant to our use permit with the USFS, all ranges will be closed to all shooting activities on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in recognition of the SUMMER EQUINOX.

Five Stand Fun Shoot at WCGC! Saturday, June 20, 2026
5-Stand is open to shooting from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

The WCGC Five-Stand Fun Shoot consists of shooting 25 target rounds. Targets are thrown from 6 - 8 randomly-placed throwers in the field.

The Five-Stand target throwers are strategically placed throughout the field. Each of the five stations that are aligned in a row are partially enclosed by a cage that limits the angles of shooting at targets. Each shooter can view the targets from all stations from the station they are shooting from. Once all shooters have completed a station they move in a clockwise rotation to the next station.

Each station has a menu card notifying the shooter where each target is being thrown. Targets are thrown from a pre-determined sequence with a variety of flight angles and consistent speed settings. Targets may be thrown from left to right, right to left, fading away, incoming, rabbit (along the ground), and vertically.

Generally, the first target thrown from each station is a single target followed up with either a report pair or true pair to round out that station. No shooter will move to the next station until the last target in a round is completed.

Five Stand is a great way to get a Sporting Clays like experience in a small amount of space, with very little walking.

Members of the Wi******er Canyon Gun Club Shooting Team will be present at all 5-Stand events to coach new shooters in the Five-Stand discipline.

WCGC is thrilled to announce an exciting event this spring—our very own Steel Challenge Fun Shoot on the WCGC 50 Yard Range. Led and organized by WCGC Range Safety Officer - Shayne Kleinebecker!

The Steel Challenge is one of the fastest-growing shooting sports in the country, known for its speed, accuracy, and excitement. Competitors of all experience levels can participate, making this a perfect opportunity for both seasoned shooters and newcomers who want to try something new.

Time: 11:00 AM
Location: 50-Yard Range
Event Type: One-Day Fun Shoot

Steel Challenge is a speed shooting competition that involves shooting arrays of steel targets while timed. A local, Level 1 match may have as few as three stages and higher level matches may have up to eight stages. Each stage has five steel plate targets of various sizes set at different distances. There is a designated “stop plate” which must be shot last in sequence on the stage.

On the start signal, the competitor fires one shot on each of the targets. The competitor must hit each of the steel plate targets on the stage once during the string. The shooter finishes the string by hitting the designated stop plate. Each string is timed, so the faster a competitor can hit each of the steel plate targets on the stage, the better. The only penalty for missing a target is a time penalty. (+3 Seconds)

Yesterday, WCGC welcomed members and guests for the Carl Westfall Memorial Sporting Clays Fun Shoot. Under beautiful sunny skies, shooters enjoyed a day filled with camaraderie and competition. Special thanks to our dedicated WCGC staff and volunteers who made this event possible, and a huge shout-out to Greg Voight for crafting such a fantastic course.

Congratulations to the winners:

⭐️HOA (Highest Overall Score): Keith J. with an impressive score of 90 out of 100
Class A: Brian J. scored 88 out of 100
Class B: Robert S. achieved 76 out of 100
Class D: Mac S. with a score of 61 out of 100

Everyone also enjoyed a delicious lunch by Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch, which included a Chicken & Tri-Tip Combo Plate that everyone raved about. The day wasn’t just about the clays; we also had a fun raffle for all participants. We encourage all members and guests to join us for future events where you can experience friendly competition, delicious food, and community spirit! Thank you for everyone's patience as we paved and upgraded the entrance to the Rifle Pistol Range last week. We opened the ranges today under beautiful sunny skies with everyone saying how much better the entrance was. Thank you to Justin at Central Coast Paving for a job well done! Weather is calling for a bright and sunny day again tomorrow on the range. Come up and see us!
