Snipe turned 120 at Easter, and this week members of the Santa Barbara YC and Santa Barbara SC joined in the celebrations by photographing her racing ‘dressed overall’ in the 65-boat fleet.

First sail and race in 11 months, trying to get the new spars and new sails to work together. Not there yet, but... Thanks to Brian and Charles for the trial photos and video.

After 10 months out of the water, Snipe is as leaky as ever. Last Wed she spent 8 hours partially submerged while I worked to get the new sails to fit the new spars. Couldn’t race, and next Wed might not be much better. A work in progress…

Sad to announce that Snipe has been retired for the rest of the 2025 season. She collided with a 15,000lb yacht last month and was dismasted. She now needs a new mast, gaff and boom. 🤦🏻‍♂️☹️

Pleased to share that ‘24 was Snipe’s best year since I’ve owned her; she was sailed on the open Pacific 41 times and covered 554 miles which is, for her UK friends, the equivalent of sailing from Norwich to Munich (as the crow flies), and from Santa Barbara to Tucson for those of you here in the US. Not bad for a slow, old lady.

Final sail of the year was on Dec 30th with all her co-owners. Roll on ‘25…
