Gear I bring with me on any given kayak trip

-PFD: Kayak Specific: this one has pockets for things like pliers, radios, my knife and more
- Yak Attack Crate: holds all my tackle and extra supplies
- Tackle Box: Jigs, jigs and more jigs. A sabiki or two and some weights for drifting. Separate box for halibut gear
- Radios: A must have on the water. Cobra VHF and Motorola 2 ways
- Garmin Striker 4 CV: Necessary for finding fish on structure at 100’
- Baitshark Bait Tank: Need I say more?
- Rods: The Three Amigos, two twins for jigging and a short halibut stick for drifting live bait
- Stringer Clip: Must have for securing the bag

There are a few other items I keep in my trackpaks like a first aid kit and sounding device, and in the top box whatever I need handy at the moment

Always room for more gear aboard my Nomad

Motor Oil paddle tail brought the heat 🔥 on an otherwise slow morning of fishing the beautiful SB coastline for Barred Surf Perch

Hooked up on a bunch of small ones less than 6” but then spotted a nice trough with good water movement and knew there had to be a few big ones cruising the sands. Some short casts with 1/2 oz weigh c rig into the zone and I was bit in no time

Jigging deep water is all about finding the structure/schools of fish and dropping on them as accurately as possible

In 80’ of water your sonar will pick up a lot of fish but landing your jig right where you want can be tricky. Surface winds can push you, undercurrents can carry your jig and judging where to drop from so far away is difficult to say the least

You must predict and drop accordingly. If you see fish on your sonar but not your jig, that’s a good sign you aren’t in the right spot. You should be able to see yourself land right in the school or on the structure… and boom! Bit 🎣

Lately I’ve been a big fan of the sand eel colors and the Jig Para Slow is my go to jig of choice. Today I got bit mostly on the 80g JPSlow

Good times on the water. Can’t wait for the next adventure 🤘

Winter perch are hungry for

Hit it at sunrise today. Within 15 minutes I had several fish counted up. Falling tide and low wave power had them close to shore and hungry. 2 more hours and a stringer full of ceviche

Nonstop action until the low tide peak and then bite was done. Great fishing morning. I haven’t been out in awhile and this was a great welcome back to the beach
