Summer mornings at the pool are calling—and we are SO ready ☀️💦

We’re kicking things off with Pool to 5K at 6am, followed by the fire, fun, and friendly competition of Splash FIT at 7am 🔥

Splash FIT is an advanced level workout in shallow and deep water. We combine elements of S’WET, Aqua HIIT, and Boot Camp with swimming and games into one seriously challenging (and seriously fun) class. It’s splashy. It’s sweaty. It’s not for the faint of heart.

In our most recent blog, we discuss the many benefits of deep water running and outline six tips to ensure your water workouts are fun and effective! Head to your favorite pool and let’s get started!

1️⃣ Locate a pool with deep water (ideally, it should be deep enough that you feet are suspended off the floor).

2️⃣ Strap on a belt. and make two of our favorites, but there are a lot of different belts (and belt alternatives) on the market. Find one that feels good for your body.

3️⃣ Perfect your technique. If you’re new to water running, it may feel awkward at first. For a basic shuffle run, keep your hands relaxed (slightly cupped) and elbows bent 90 degrees. Swing your arms from the shoulders, keeping your elbows close to your body. Imagine pushing your foot off the ground (as if running on land!) while flexing your opposite knee to about 45 degrees. Lean slightly forward and gaze forward.

4️⃣ Run with purpose. Your water workout should mimic your land workout, so play with your pace as needed. (TIP: your heart rate will likely be lower in water, so don’t rely strictly on your HR monitor to gauge your effort) Using intervals? Swap your shuffle run for a high knee sprint, slicing your hands through the water and lifting your knees a bit higher.

5️⃣ Up the ante. Add resistance, like ankle fins from , for a more challenging workout and increased strengthening benefits. You could also use drag resistance in your hands (strap your fins on your wrists, wear gloves, or hold drag bells!).

6️⃣ Make it fun! Recruit friends to join you or listen to your favorite music. Waterproof headphones (with a downloaded playlist, podcast, or audio book) can make all the difference!

Meet our Client of the Month, Gail! 💥

Gail may be the new kid on the block — she’s been attending our classes for less than four months — but we are SO impressed with her consistency and dedication.

Gail’s love for the water is infectious. She’s always sporting a new swimsuit, raving about how great she feels after her pool workouts, or showing off her new muscles. After she found herself cramping up during a Wavemakers class, she decided to start supplementing her group workouts with open pool to boost her endurance and continue building strength. Seeing her progress over such a short period has been both exciting & rewarding, and we admire her commitment.

After receiving this high honor, Gail said: “I am incredibly grateful for your swim classes. I truly feel like a new woman physically and mentally...... AWESOME!!!!”

Aloha from Innisbrook! 🌴
Day 2 at IAFTC brought cloudy skies and afternoon thunderstorms, but we were still able to attend some fantastic classes, like Aqua Combat Challenge, Diamond Jump and Deep Core Ball Workout. The sun came out for Day 3, and we started with a couple pediatric aquatic therapy classes. We also suffered through a few tough workouts, like Tidal Surge & S’WET Boot Camp. After classes, we met up with the S’WET Squad at a local lakeside restaurant… It was a long, fun, tiring day!! ☀️

We made it to Florida!

Despite being delayed out of Santa Barbara, we made our connection for our red-eye flight from Phoenix to Tampa. We spent a few hours playing tourist at Clearwater Beach, drank allll the coffee 🥱, checked in for our conference, picked up our bikes & groceries for the week, explored all six pools on the Innisbrook grounds, and took a much-needed nap. Today’s May Gray was reminiscent of SB, but with the heat and humidity, the “feels-like” temp was still over 100 🥵

Tomorrow’s classes start bright and early, and we can’t wait to share our adventures with our friends back home! Stay tuned…
