I have been tired lately, the season has changed(we are in ‘may grey’ here in SB), my work schedule is fully booked, life is fun and vibrant, but busy. Getting on the mat has felt a lil harder, but I am at the point where it feels stranger not to practice, so I always show up and just see what happens. How did I get to this point?

When we see Yoga as merely one thing, and that is usually a physical practice, it can feel challenging to show up when we feel tired or busy. We might have an expectation of what we should do, and if we don’t feel capable then we don’t even want to try.

But what if we came to your practice through a different lense? Understanding Yoga philosophy can help.

One of my favourite Yoga sutras is 1:14
स तु दीर्घकालनैरन्तर्यसत्कारआदरसवितो दृढभूमिः
“Sa tu dirgha-kala-nairantarya-satkara-sevito dridha-bhumih” it translates as “When practice is sustained for an extended period of time, without interruption, and with dedication, it becomes firmly grounded.” – Swami Satchidananda

There is no mention of āsana, postures. Just showing up, consistently and with dedication. Changing your mindset can change how it feels to show up. Practice is an exploration, not only of the body but of the self.

Life will inevitably present challenges and distractions, but when our practice is firmly established over time these are less likely to derail us. We just keep showing up. Transformation unfolds slowly, gently shaping our thoughts, emotions, ideas and daily life.

How has it been 5 years??

I never envisioned that this would be my life, but I can honestly say I love it.

It is interesting to look back at the many moments of my teaching so far, to see how I have grown, evolved, learnt, and continue to learn.

These are just 5 things that came to mind when I thought about my teaching journey that I thought might be interesting to others who are thinking of teaching and also for my students who have taken classes/practice with me, but there are plenty more.

It’s exciting to think that this is only the beginning, and I have no idea what is yet to come!

All I know is that each week I will keep practicing, and each week I will keep showing up for you all as best as I can. See you on the mat soon! ☀️

I made the decision to start learning Sanskrit more seriously this year, and I am so happy I did.

As a full time Yoga teacher I have always taken it as my responsibility to try and honour where Yoga is from, I feel it is my job to share the rich history, lineage and culture of Yoga authentically and correctly.

Especially as a white western Yoga teacher, now more than ever recognising the roots of Yoga is important and I honestly believe all Yoga teachers should be learning Sanskrit. I spend hours doing āsana, but what about the rest of it? I share quotes from the 8 limbs, but do I really get it?

I am not here to shame anyone or make people feel bad, it took me many years to make the decision. I put it off because I thought it would be too hard, I didn’t know where to begin, and I didn’t think I had the time.

I have loved the practice of learning Sanskrit, because that is what it is. Just as I practice postures, breathing, self study, Sanskrit has allowed me to understand Yoga with more depth.

I can’t recommend it enough, and although I have a looooong way to go I am excited about the journey!

Thanks to for being patient and teaching me twice a week every week, if you are interested in learning get in touch with him!

And to for meeting in person and sharing his knowledge and expertise!
