Important information regarding the use of Electric Bikes on Sanibel.

On September 9, 2024 Ordinance 24-014 was adopted by the The City of Sanibel, Florida. The following can be found on https://www.mysanibel.com/government/recreation2/bike-or-hike-on-the-shared-use-path

Bikes have increased in popularity and use over the last few years. For the safety and the enjoyment of all users on the Shared Use Path, E-Bike use is allowed for Class One E-Bikes only. Class One E-Bikes require the users to pedal for electric assistance, have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph, and do not have a throttle.

Motorized vehicles, micro-mobility devices, motorized scooters, mopeds, or other vehicle not exclusively operated by human power are not permitted on the Shared Use Path (with the exception of a power-driven mobility device operated by a person disabled for mobility purposes).
