On Tuesday, September 29th, we had the distinct pleasure of starting an EPIC Ride from Sanford, Florida to St. Simons Island, Georgia with these 9 adventurous athletes. The ride covered 308 miles, over 4 days, with overnight stops in Daytona Beach, St. Augustine, Amelia Island, and finally ending in St. Simons.
Along the way we had stops at 4 lighthouses, a couple forts, a couple distilleries, some fantastic restaurants for lunch and dinner... and most importantly a safe and awesome time bonding while really having to work for our vacation. Within the group we had 3 riders who, on this ride, had 3 of their longest rides EVER. They rode in wonderful harmony and made us proud with their fortitude and skills.
Believe it or not we only had one flat, 3 angry honks, 3 slow speed tip-overs, and no real route issues but a half mile of dirt road to traverse. A few of the days we fought significant head winds but still averaged nearly 17 miles per hour for the entire 308 miles trek... to that end the credit has got to go to the two Super Workhorses (Eric and Mike) who pulled such a smooth and consistent effort as it made the trip achievable for everybody else on the ride.
These athletes have my most humble gratitude, and appreciation for putting it on the line and following through. You are an amazing group of cyclists!
