Mile markers are coming to a Canal Service Road near you (finally)!!!

Mile marker painting started today and will continue through next week.
- Whole and half miles will be labeled.
- Quarter miles will be marked with a dash and a Corps Castle.

If you see cones next to the mile markers, take care--the paint might still be wet!

So great to see!

Great news received this morning. Many thanks to Dylan Fernandes for his advocacy on behalf of our town and our project!

On April 23, state Senator Dylan Fernandes announced that he has secured $50,000 in funding for the Sandwich Shared Use Path—the pedestrian and bike trail intended to connect the Cape Cod Canal and Service Road trails.

Fernandes filed an amendment to the Fair Share supplemental state budget, which adjusted the allocated revenue surplus to fund transportation and education investments, to secure this extra funding. The $50,000 will go toward engineering costs.

The path, which is currently in its “pre-25%” design phase, “will create a safe, accessible space for walking and biking that improves mobility, supports local businesses, enhances safety, and connects the town to the broader Vision 88 regional trail network,” according to a press release announcing the funding.

“Investments like this lay the groundwork for safer, more connected communities,” Fernandes said in the press release. “The $50,000 we secured will help Sandwich take an important step forward in designing a shared-use path along the Cape Cod Canal corridor, and we will continue to push for more resources for the town.”

We’d love to see you there in person, but if you can’t make it tomorrow, the session will be recorded by Sandwich Community Television and be available on their Web site and YouTube channel.

🚨 Reminder: Sandwich Chamber of Commerce Event on Shared Use Path Tomorrow! 🚨

🚲🚶 Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the proposed Route 130 to Cape Cod Canal Shared Use Path—and share your input!

📅 Thursday, April 30
🕘 9:00 AM
📍 Sand Hill Community Center

Hosted by the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce, this event will feature a presentation and discussion with Town Engineer Sam Jensen, Sandwich Bikeways & Pedestrian Committee Chair Sean Polay, and VHB consultant Steve Rhoads.

This proposed project would connect the Cape Cod Canal to the recently completed Service Road Trail—helping create a safer, more connected network for walking and biking across Sandwich. It’s an important step toward improving quality of life, supporting local businesses, and expanding access to everything our community has to offer.

🏢 Local businesses—especially those along or near the proposed route—are encouraged to attend and share their perspectives. Community members are also welcome!

💬 Still in the early stages, this is a great chance to ask questions, learn more, and help shape the path ahead.

We hope to see you there!
