Great news received this morning. Many thanks to Dylan Fernandes for his advocacy on behalf of our town and our project!
On April 23, state Senator Dylan Fernandes announced that he has secured $50,000 in funding for the Sandwich Shared Use Path—the pedestrian and bike trail intended to connect the Cape Cod Canal and Service Road trails.
Fernandes filed an amendment to the Fair Share supplemental state budget, which adjusted the allocated revenue surplus to fund transportation and education investments, to secure this extra funding. The $50,000 will go toward engineering costs.
The path, which is currently in its “pre-25%” design phase, “will create a safe, accessible space for walking and biking that improves mobility, supports local businesses, enhances safety, and connects the town to the broader Vision 88 regional trail network,” according to a press release announcing the funding.
“Investments like this lay the groundwork for safer, more connected communities,” Fernandes said in the press release. “The $50,000 we secured will help Sandwich take an important step forward in designing a shared-use path along the Cape Cod Canal corridor, and we will continue to push for more resources for the town.”
