We are very saddened to share that Mr. Switzer passed away on May 4th. Mr. Switzer had a profound impact on so many people as a coach, mentor, and friend. We will miss him so much. Two weeks ago the SAS crew got together with Mr. Switzer via zoom to celebrate his 90th birthday. We wanted to share some of our favorite pictures through the years as well as a clip from that celebration.

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

SAD NEWS!!! Although we have been excited and ready to begin the 2019 session for SAS, those plans have quickly changed. SAS WILL NOT OPEN FOR THE 2019 SEASON, NOR WILL IT REOPEN IN THE FUTURE. A necessary and planned hip operation for May 8th did not come through, I hope that within the next few weeks that operation can be accomplished. I will no longer have the necessary rehab time to participate in the school.

I always believe in running the highest quality possible with Sandwich Aquatic School and I will never put forth anything less. Second to only my wife Betsy whom recently passed away, Sandwich Aquatic School and the work for children was my greatest love. I will miss it terribly, but I feel that we can no longer offer the quality second to none.

Since the summer of 1967 Sandwich Aquatic School has been demonstrating the quality of swim instruction we have tried to bring to each summer program. We have been honored and proud to teach so many young children the aquatic skills necessary to become confident, safe, and independent swimmers. Generations of families have participated in the program and there are so many funny and heartwarming stories to tell. Along the way we have met many wonderful families and individuals who have become life-long friends.

It has been a great ride we thank you for enjoying it with us. Keep on swimming and remember to always “blow your bubbles”.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Betsy Switzer. She was an incredible woman loved by so many. She was an instrumental part of Sandwich Aquatic School and the Sandwich Women’s Club. She will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be announced in the days to come for all to attend.

WE ARE NOW OFFERING AN ADULT CLASS

In 2018 we will offer an adult class for the weeks of July 23-Aug 3 in the late morning or early afternoon for 45 minutes. The class is for adults who are at an advanced beginner to intermediate level. It is required the participant be able and willing to open their eyes (without goggles) and put their face in the water. They should be able to swim using some stroke 20 yards (the length of our pool). The class will focus on overhand or front crawl swimming emphasizing rotatory breathing. The goal of the course will be to have participants learn to swim comfortably and easily in the water which will help in recreational swimming or triathlon training.
