We need your help to make Sunday Hunting crossbows and reduced archery setbacks happen.

While you are snowed or frozen solid please take a minute to weigh in on the listening sessions being conducted by MassWildlife. We need your input on two surveys that take very little time. Now is the time to make move forward on Sunday hunting, Crossbows for everyone and reduced archery setbacks. We have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain!

The first survey can be taken using this link

https://www.mass.gov/forms/hunting-laws-public-feedback

The second survey can be taken using this link

https://wildlifeconservation.uplandalmanac.com/

Attached to this email are the scheduled listening sessions for MassWildlife Also attached is a list of talking points you might consider in preparing your comments.

Please do the surveys and participate in a listening session

Some points to consider for your posts

Some General Points To Consider in your presentation

Public approval increases when hunting is linked to social benefits (likehunters for the hungry)

We need to get politics out of wildlife management and concentrate on whatโ€™s best for the wildlife.

Habitat degradation always leads to lower populations of wildlife.

Habitat degradation affects water quality for everyone.
Habitat degradation reduces biodiversity by reducing the feed and cover available.

Increasing wildlife density beyond the capacity of the land to support it leads to disease ie tick diseases and has the potential to open Massachusetts up to CWD. Itโ€™s already as close as New York
Increasing hunting opportunities for whitetail deer will increase the amount of meat donated to hunters for the hungry providing organic protein for food insecure people.โ€‹
\
The longer we delay dealing with growing wildlife populations the more animals must die to achieve a solution and the bigger the damage to our forests

Recreational hunting has improved habitats in Quabbin and Blue Hills without safety Southeast Massachusetts towns are experiencing highest rates of deer

vehicle collisions in the state causing unnecessary injury and death to people as well as increasing insurance premiums.

Points relative to Archery & Cross bows

There have been no incidents of non-hunters being injured by archery hunters in Massachusetts Environmental Police\
500 foot setbacks were implemented when fi****ms were the main form of deer hunting. Setbacks have not taken into account the use of modern archery equipment and need to be updated to reflect current practice.

Archery hunters hunt mostly from tree stands where the downward trajectory limits range thereby justifying reduced setbacks.

Archery hunting including cross bows cause less noise disturbance to area inhabitants.

Archery hunting opens a significant amount of area to recreational hunting and should increase harvest rates in areas of existing high density deer populations.

Increasing the number of hunters able to participate in archery hunting by adding crossbows for everyone will increase the harvest especially in areas with higher deer densities.
\
Crossbows offer accuracies comparable to fi****ms increasing ethical shot placement and reducing wounding loss.

Crossbows function the same as other more traditional archery equipment and should be regulated similarly ie allowed for everyone.

Crossbows have been approved in Mass since 2011 for disabled people without safety issues.
\
Crossbows have a shorter learning curve than traditional archery equipmentmaking them an ideal for recruitment of new hunters especially in urban and suburban areas where archery is the primary hunting method.

This is itโ€”our Lexington moment.

On Friday, October 31st, the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security will hold a public hearing at the Massachusetts State House on Senator Peter Durant's and Representative Gaskey's bills to repeal Chapter 135, as well as several other critical firearm-related bills.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The Civil Rights Coalition, with full support from Gun Owners' Action League (GOAL), will host a rally on the front steps of the State House at 10:30 AM.

We'll share more details soon, but for now, please plan to attend and help us fill those steps with a sea of GOAL members. We must remind Beacon Hill that our rights are not negotiable.

Following the rally, the public hearing will take place from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM in Gardner Auditorium. This is a hybrid hearing, allowing testimony in person, virtually via Zoom, or through written submission.

This is where your voices and your members' voices matter most.
Tell the Committee how Chapter 135 has impacted responsible, law-abiding citizens, athletes, instructors, and clubs across the Commonwealth. Share your stories and speak for your members who can't attend.

If you wish to testify virtually or in person, you must register by Monday, October 27th, at 5:00 PM.

If your club or members need help identifying which bills to focus on or preparing testimony, please reach outโ€”I'll be happy to assist.

This is an all-hands-on-deck call to action.

We need every GOAL-affiliated club, instructor, range officer, and responsible gun owner standing shoulder to shoulder for our rights, our freedoms, and our future.

Let's show Beacon Hill that the people of Massachusetts will not back down.

Join us at 10:30 AM on October 31st at the State House.
Mark your calendars, spread the word to your members, and stand with GOAL and CRC.

Thanks,
