If you’ve ever thought that, you’re not wrong for thinking it. You were just taught the wrong thing. 👇
Most parents think lifting weights is dangerous for kids. That it’ll stunt their growth, damage their growth plates, hurt their development.
And honestly, it makes sense that people believe it. That myth has been repeated for decades with zero science behind it. It spread because it sounded logical — kids are small, weights are heavy, protect the kids. The problem is it was never true.
The research is clear. Youth strength training is not only safe — it’s one of the most beneficial things a developing athlete can do. Growth plate injuries from lifting? Extremely rare, and almost always the result of poor form or too much load too fast. You know what actually damages growth plates? Competitive sports. Repetitive sprinting. Jumping. The things we never think twice about.
The gym is the safest place your kid can build strength. A controlled environment with qualified coaching, intentional movement patterns, and appropriate load isn’t a risk — it’s the antidote to risk. We’re not throwing kids under a barbell on day one. We teach them to move well first. Strength follows movement. Always.
The kid who trains right doesn’t get hurt less by accident. They get hurt less by design.
