Sandpoint Area Recreation and Community Center

Since early 2010 a group of dedicated local residents has held bi-weekly meetings with the goal of building a stronger and healthier community through the creation of a community recreation and activity center; the Sandpoint Area Recreation and Community Center (SPARC Center)

The SPARC group has solicited advice and input from area seniors, established youth programs (Soccer, Little League, Volle

yball, Strikers Soccer, and Lacrosse), area Teen Programs, and a wide range of families and individuals. We have visited similar communities and toured their ice-skating facilities, recreation centers, and reviewed their after-school programs. We have also solicited input from both the private fitness industry, as well as the non-profit community. We have meet with City and County officials and investigated various partnership and organizational structures. Our goal is to build a "YMCA-like" facility and we are currently exploring joining this group. We have just been awarded a twenty thousand dollar ($ 20,000) grant to garner further input (survey) from our community regarding desired components of the center. We are currently seeking a location near the center of town so that we can create site-specific excitement and support while also providing synergy and economic benefits for our downtown business district.
