As we watch the World Series, a familiar face is making headlines in right field for the Tampa Bay Rays: **Victor Mesa Jr.**
Before reaching the Major Leagues, Mesa was the leadoff hitter for the FEPCube Cuban Dream Team in its exhibition game against the Houston Apollos. At the time, Mesa was part of the Miami Marlins organization, playing for their Triple-A affiliate, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. He was designated for assignment by the Marlins and now is on the worlds biggest stage.
Mesa was one of the standout players that night in Coral Gables, displaying the same talent and ability that would eventually take him to the Major Leagues.
The Houston Apollos faced FEPCube on January 29, 2024, at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, in a special exhibition known as the **Cuban Freedom Game**. The game brought together an extraordinary collection of Cuban baseball talent, including former Major League stars and rising prospects, in a celebration of baseball and Cuban heritage.
Years later, seeing Victor Mesa Jr. on baseball's biggest stage serves as a reminder of the remarkable talent that took the field that evening.
