Diving conditions along the local coast have been GOOD this week!
Our private OW class had great diving conditions at Veteran’s Park in Redondo Beach on Wednesday and Thursday! Flat surf and swells with 40 ft VIZ — as good as it gets! 🙂
Last Sunday, we had a Giant Stride charter and did three dives at the Oil Rigs. Although we experienced some strong currents, conditions overall were great with 50 ft VIZ!
Divers also reported good conditions along the front side of Catalina Island this past week. Rare marine life such as manta rays, hammerhead sharks, and even whale sharks have been spotted this summer around the Channel Islands and along the Southern California coast!
Looking ahead, the forecast calls for sunny skies with air temperatures in the mid-70s throughout the week. With calm surf and swells in the forecast, this week is looking great for diving! 🙂

REDONDO:
The Swell forecast currently shows Redondo at 1-2 foot Surf with 18 second intervals & 1 foot swells for Saturday (VERY GOOD+), 1-2 foot Surf with 6 second intervals combined with 2 foot swells on Sunday (VERY GOOD). Our Wednesday Evening Night Dive forecast 1-2 foot Surf with 14 second intervals combined with 2 foot swells (VERY GOOD).
PALOS VERDES:
WEST facing Palos Verdes Beaches & Coves (Malaga, Haggerty’s, Flat Rock) all show 0-1 foot Surf with 6 second intervals & 2 foot swells for Saturday (VERY GOOD), 0-1 foot Surf with 6 second intervals & 2 foot swells for Sunday (FAIR based on the swells). High tide in PV is around 11:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday so you might want to hit the beach around 10:30AM for the easiest entry.
SOUTH Facing Beaches in Palos Verdes (Royal Palms, White Point, Point Fermin) show 0-1 foot surf with 13 second intervals & 1 foot swell for Saturday (EXCELLENT), 0-2 foot Surf with 6 second intervals combined with 2 foot swells for Sunday (VERY GOOD). White’s is a rocky entry – so mind your footing on the Entry & Exit and shoot for High Tide for the easiest entry / exit.
CABRILLO – A South Facing protected cove in Palos Verdes / San Pedro shows 0-2 foot surf with 13 second intervals & 1 foot swells on Saturday (VERY GOOD), 0-2 foot Surf with 12 second intervals combined with ¾ foot swells for Sunday (VERY GOOD). We expect VIZ to be usually “just “OK” at Best for Cabrillo.
LAGUNA:
The Swell forecast shows Beaches in Laguna at 1-2 foot Surf with 13 second intervals and 2 foot swells for Saturday (VERY GOOD). On Sunday we are looking at 0-2 Foot Surf with 12 second intervals combined with 1 ½ foot swells (VERY GOOD).

Looking ahead, the forecast calls for sunny skies with air temperatures in the mid-70s throughout the week. Water temperatures range from 63-67° at deeper levels, warming to 68-72° in the shallows along the South Bay coast.

- Renewal of your California fishing license, salt water fishing add on, and Lobster Card from anywhere that sells fishing licenses
- CA Lobster Gauge (3.25 inch)
- Lobster Bag: Easy grabbing and stuffing, fits the limit of 7 lobsters
- Durable Thermal Lobster Gloves: Our Kevlar ones offer the best protection
- Lights: Primary and backup, preferably one with a red light
- Heat packs: Essential as water temps cool
- Waterproof Insulated Dive Parka
- Knife: Ideal for cutting line in case you get caught
- Tank Marker: Set you and your buddy apart
- Bolt-snaps and Retractors: Secure your kit
- Surface Lantern Light: Confirm count and fill your lobster card post-dive

Diving conditions along the local coast have been varied this week.
While conditions along the south-facing PV and Laguna areas were unfavorable due to the storm, conditions around Redondo and the west-facing side of PV remained good!
Last Monday, we had an Island Diver charter and did two dives on the west side of PV. We had 1–2+ ft swells and moderate surge, with visibility around 15–20 ft. 🙂
Other divers reported 0–1 ft swells and visibility ranging from 18 ft in the shallows to 30 ft in deeper water at Veterans Park in Redondo Beach on the same day. Divers also reported 20-25 ft of visibility at Veterans Park yesterday!
Looking ahead, the forecast calls for sunny skies throughout the week, with air temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s. Swells have returned to normal, making Laguna a great option for diving this weekend!

Diving conditions along the local coast have been GOOD this week!
Last Thursday, we took the shop boat “Sea Hunt” to the oil rigs and South PV. At the oil rigs, we had amazing 60+ ft visibility with 63°F water temperature at 60 ft deep!
We also stopped at Point Fermin, where we had great conditions with 50 ft visibility and 72°F water temperature. 🙂
Our crew also went snorkeling at Casino Point on Catalina Island, where exceptional conditions with 50+ ft visibility were reported.

REDONDO:
The Swell forecast currently shows Redondo at 1-2 foot Surf with 16 second intervals & 2 ½ foot swells for Saturday (VERY GOOD), 1-2 foot Surf with 15 second intervals combined with 2½ foot swells on Sunday (VERY GOOD). Our Wednesday Evening Night Dive forecast 1-2 foot Surf with 10 second intervals combined with 3 foot swells (GOOD).
PALOS VERDES:
WEST facing Palos Verdes Beaches & Coves (Malaga, Haggerty’s, Flat Rock) all show 0-1 foot Surf with 10 second intervals & ¾ foot swells for Saturday (EXCELLENT), 0-1 foot Surf with 8 second intervals & ¾ foot swells for Sunday (EXCELLENT). High tide in PV is around 8:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday so you might want to hit the beach around 7:30AM for the easiest entry.
SOUTH Facing Beaches in Palos Verdes (Royal Palms, White Point, Point Fermin) show 1-2 foot surf with 13 second intervals & 3 ½ foot swell for Saturday (POOR based on the swells), 1-3 foot Surf with 13 second intervals combined with 3 ½ foot swells for Sunday (POOR based on the swells). White’s is a rocky entry – so mind your footing on the Entry & Exit and shoot for High Tide for the easiest entry / exit.
CABRILLO – A South Facing protected cove in Palos Verdes / San Pedro shows 1-3 foot surf with 13 second intervals & 4 foot swells on Saturday (UNSAFE based on the swells), 1-3 foot Surf with 13 second intervals combined with 3 ½ foot swells for Sunday (POOR based on the swells). We expect VIZ to be usually “just “OK” at Best for Cabrillo.
LAGUNA:
The Swell forecast shows Beaches in Laguna at 1-3 foot Surf with 14 second intervals and ½ foot swells for Saturday (UNSAFE based on the swells). On Sunday we are looking at 2-3 Foot Surf with 14 second intervals combined with 5+ foot swells (UNSAFE based on the swells).

Join PW Representatives Randy, Giles & crew who will be making a FUN Dive at Terranea resort in Palos Verdes. Beach Divers are welcome to Dive. Please be aware this is a Long Walk in Full Gear with a Rocky entry. Experienced Beach Divers preferred.
These guys are not PADI Professionals but are very experienced divers who are happy to buddy you up with other divers on the dive. Snorkel, a Compass & a Dive Light are required for this dive.
