Laurie Moran Thinks You Are Awesome

Laurie Moran Thinks You Are Awesome Negativity is toxic. Honor yourself by deciding you are worth living your life happy and healthy. I I think you are awesome. Life doesn't have to be this way.

I think we all need to know that there are people out there that think we are pretty fabulous. Every day we talk to ourselves in an unkind way. We reserve the cruelest language for ourselves. Ignore those negative messages you tell yourself. Distance yourself from those unkind people that make it worse. Be strong, be happy, be healthy. Move, eat well, and love yourself.

Happy to Max and Coral! These goblins have helped dry my tears and mend my heart. They keep me laughing all the time and occasionally they keep me from sleeping. Adopting them was the highlight of 2020 and really, they are the highlight of every day.
With Max and Coral around we are never alone! No, really. We can’t even go to the bathroom by ourselves.

It’s okay to be exactly where you are.
Trust me, I’m telling myself this advice. I’ll be honest, between getting injured, concentrating on resetting my gut, and traveling, my exercise regimen is kind of crap.
But let’s focus on a few positives. I found my running shoes, (finally) and I’m getting 1 mile of walking in a day. Most importantly I’m fixing my mindset when it comes to expectations and reality. I don’t want to set myself up to fail or be disappointed.

When my dad was diagnosed with diabetes, I wanted to get on a plane and come cook for him. I had been down this path with my husband.
Honestly, he wasn’t ready and the timing wasn’t right but on this trip I’ve done a whole lot of cooking for my dad. I asked him what his favorite condiment is. I thought he’d say ketchup. He said tartar sauce. So I made Tartar Sauce from scratch, along with Fish and Chips.
Every meal has been successful. I’ve vetted them, but I’ve taken a few risks. I’m getting my mom the recipes so she can make them when I leave and I’ve left the fridge full of leftovers.
My mom is also thrilled she hasn’t had to cook in a week.

I haven’t seen my family since Christmas 2019. When you live on the other side of the country and there’s a pandemic raging, it makes things difficult.
I spent the first few weeks of Shelter -In-Place terrified I’d never see my parents again, scared they wouldn’t take things seriously. The silver lining throughout all this is, I speak to my parents most every day now and our relationship is stronger than ever.
When things got a little better I decided to come home this Fall. Unfortunately I timed it with the Delta outbreak in Maine… but we’ve just kept closer to home.
It’s been a good trip and it’s been great to concentrate on my parents and not other experiences.

I’m the last few minutes of Su***de Awareness Month, I’m going to tell you something you don’t know about me.
Around the time of this photo, age 15 and 360 days I was probably already feeling some periods of depression. Throughout my life it’s been better and worse. Sometimes it’s been related to something going on in my life - getting fired, losing a relationship, school pressure. Sometimes I have no idea why my biochemistry changed. Sometimes I didn’t even recognize it.
When it comes to su***de, I’ve had times where I didn’t want to *be* anymore. I’ve never made a plan. I’ve never thought it out, but I have thought that I’d rather stay asleep because dream life is much preferable to waking life.
The thing I want you to know is, if you asked me how I’m doing, even at my worst - I’d lie and tell you I’m fine. I’m really good at it. Deflecting, misdirecting, it’s a skill.
I struggle to know what to do when my friend is in a bad place. I’ve been the concerned friend. I don’t have the right answer because I think it’s different for everyone. I just try and be present and listen. And not about the issue, but whatever they will talk about. Being a friend means showing up and that’s what I try and do.
Please pay attention to your loved ones. Let them know you have their backs and let them know they are important to you. We are never guaranteed another day.

Ever had a piece of equipment make you feel like a failure?
My husband bought a Peloton years ago. I got shoes, I got fitted to know what settings I should have the seat and the handlebars and all that on. I found an instructor I liked, but I just didn’t stick to it. I watched so many people get obsessed with their bikes in the pandemic. I tried again because FOMO, fell off again.
The most I’ve used this bike for is as a balance bar when I did Barre Blend.
The thing is, I like spin, I like live classes… so I’m really excited that with Beachbody and Myx coming together, I’ll be able to access rides that I can do on the bike I have, in the gym I’ve set up.
And if I find out again, it’s not for me, that’s fine. But I’m really excited that other athletes will be on screen with the trainers in real time from their homes, too! That might be what I need to feel connected.

I live in San Diego, home of the fish taco. But honestly, I’ve never been super jazzed because of the fish fry.
I was super excited with released a fish taco bowl! And then, when I made my own roasted tomatillo salsa for it, I was even more excited.
While I’ve been learning to cook healthy, I’ve been learning to... cook. So many of the things we buy in cans and jars are so much better when we make them ourselves. And it’s surprisingly easy to do so.

Personal inertia. I’d never heard the term before consciously but that’s exactly what I’m feeling right now.
Maybe it’s hitting me because now that I’m vaccinated and my immune system is fully powered up, I can do a lot of the things I haven’t been. And I’m aware I haven’t been, even though that’s misleading because there’s been really good reason not to. (Make sense?)
Luckily, I texted a couple of my friends last night to interrupt the negative spiral I was starting to flow to.
It’s a new day, a new month, and as always, anything is possible.

My kitties absolutely love it when I workout. But they also absolutely love to interrupt me for lovey time.
Coral, particularly, loves to make me stop what I’m doing and hold her. She also takes up 89% of my yoga mat. That’s impressive!
My friends post about getting their kids to do workouts with them, well, this is my version. Max is my big kitty and I’ll often switch out a 15 lb weight and just squat with him in my arms. He enjoys it!
Lately I’ve been really committed to stretching and self care before sleep. The kitties always join me.
Your tribe might be your cats!

I started this year strong with a 9 week fitness program that was unlike anything I’ve done. It flipped the script on how I’ve been working out and I got stronger and faster.
Unfortunately I also took a pretty nasty fall that has taken awhile to recover from. I finished my 9 weeks with some modification but... I finished.
And this week I erased this whole brag board and started over!
On round 2 I’m going to be more consistent with the nightly stretch out. I’m lifting a bit heavier than I did last round... because I’m strong enough. I’m going to modify less. And most importantly, I’m working harder on my nutrition.
Nutrition is the key to it all, and it’s super unsexy, but it’s important. It’s actually 80% of the health equation.
Let’s see where this grand adventure leads me this time!

I found this article about the 75 Hard challenge really interesting. Look - I certainly take on my fair share of challenges. I commit to a program and those programs usually last a certain length of time. But living every day healthier is always my ultimate goal. I have no illusions about this - every day is to be enjoyed and every day we move forward a bit more. If something doesn’t seem like it lines up with your personal goals - don’t feel like you have to do it.

Ugh. Can we not?
