As temperatures hopefully relent and the tubing season draws to a close, us paddlers will have the river all to ourselves! More from yesterday's canoe racing action! The Texas Water Safari Jr is a 16 mile race from San Marcos to Staples held every year in the fall. Although the name can be confusing, this is a shorter version of the full length 260 mile Texas Water Safari rather than a children's event. Paddlers of all ages may compete.

This happy family came out for their very first paddling experience and after some light coaching, managed to paddle up-river to the headwaters where they were rewarded for their efforts with this scene. Way to go! This is an experience they are sure to remember! They even did it twice to gain experience with both canoe and kayaking techniques. Mondays are perfect for this kind of learning experience as there is virtually no river traffic on weekdays compared to weekends in town. To top it off they even stopped for a bite to eat at Kirby Lane!
