Belgian Waffle Ride BWR BC is June 8 and BWR Mex is November 23. The premier and hardest events of their kind and the most unique one day cycling events in the world.

The most unique one day cycling events in the world - The Quad-Tripel Crown is the first four BWRs of the year, commencing in AZ March 1, BWR CA April 27, BWR UT May 24, and culminating in Bozeman, MT, June 29. Typically, 235 kms of suffering over sinuous, bone grinding unroads fraught with arduous climbs, mud, chocking dust, leg-numbing sleet or heat and winds. Created in the spirit of the great Spring monuments, the Belgian Waffle Ride California (BWR CA) will take its peloton on a ronde through North County San Diego, where it will clatter through agrarian hamlets and the Ardenne-like hills—not over classic mountains per se, but rather a never ending string of climbs—along dirt or roughly paved roads carved through inland San Diego’s beautiful rural and sometimes forested backcountry. Unlike many other Spring events, this one will not simply be a one- or two-hump race suited to the smallest climber with the biggest lungs, as no one really likes that guy...

The BWR offers up terrain that is selective in the true sense of the word. Though Belgium’s sucking mud, pave, choking dust, sleet, and narrowly winding, bone grinding roads will be absent, BWR will throw plenty of challenging terrain into the teeth of the peloton. Indeed, it will proffer roads, the likes of which less hardened racers go out of their way to avoid. The hulking, primping, one-trick ponies who have made their reputations on the slender tendril of numerous lead-out men will find in the BWR a multifaceted, ugly, technical, tactical, grinding, pounding, relentless, spirit- sapping, muscle-cramping beatdown in the finest tradition of long road races. Lead-out not needed. Yes, there is unroads - dirt, gravel, sand, rocks- and water crossings, hills, wind and pain. Just the way we like it.

Sofia Gomez Villafane won three BWR AZ’s in a row, the same three Keegan Swenson won. Here she is leading the women’s race through McDowell Mountain Park, where the race will be held this year.

Amazing finish shots from our friends at FinisherPix. Objects in the lens appear further away than they are. russell finsterwald and LESPY take it to the line.

The Zwartenberg was resurrected this year for BWR CA. It eventuated over to the Boden Canyon Reserve, where we got to be the first to ever ride it legitimately.

Should we keep these two features and the Wildmans Wildernis between the two?

Remembering… Sixteen years of Unroadworthy mania. And they thought we’d grow out of it.

What began with “you can’t ride that bike in the dirt” became a rather unreasonable attachment to doing precisely that. Waffles, washboard, rattling wheels and ragged bones. Belgian roots, questionable routes and the beautiful people who keep coming back for another helping.

Here’s to everyone who has ridden, rallied, volunteered, heckled or stayed for one more b**r. You’ve given this pedaling perversity a life of its own… and us plenty of reasons to keep dreaming up trouble.

The 2027 Belgian Waffle Ride season is open for registration. Come celebrate our 16th year with dirt in your teeth and friends at the finish.

Beware of the Usual. 🧇🍺
