The advertisement is not the reality. I worked my butt off to get that shredded. I gave up ALL the junk foods, desserts, comfort foods, alcohol, everything that didn’t directly benefit my muscle growth and fat loss. My workouts were 20-30 minutes of cardio intervals followed by 45 min to an hour of hitting the weight HARD during the week and sometimes on weekends too. My body fat was between 10-12% during this time. A week before, I depleted water to rid myself of that weight as well. All for a photo shoot that lasted an hour at the most.
I tried to stay this lean as long as I could, but I also wanted to enjoy partaking here and there. I had to come to the realization that the pace and strictness by which I was living was unrealistic long term and it was taking its toll on me.
The second picture is where I landed. Maybe it doesn’t get props on IG for looking like a badass. Maybe I won’t be doing any photo shoots for a fitness anymore like this. But I’m healthy mentally and physically because I have balance. Health is what it should be about. Not about being eye candy or trying to look like Wonder Woman. Just take care of yourself so life is enjoyable as much as it can be. Because most of the time it’s freaking hard!!!

Want an escape? Need a way to blow off some steam and relieve the holiday stress? Are you looking for an alternative to alcohol and the hangover and regret? Don’t want assault on your record? There’s no better way than to hit the weights. And I like to imagine the head of the last person who pi**ed me off when I do ball slams (just a suggestion). Best part is…the end result is POSITIVE! You feel better mentally and physically. You come away stronger, clearer headed, more energized, with a good night’s sleep ahead of you. That sounds like a merry Christmas season to me.

When I first got married, I wanted to be this amazing wife who made gourmet meals for her husband every night. And I did and we gained a good 10 pounds our first year. What I learned is that every meal does not need to be fancy and gourmet. Gourmet equals high fat, carbs and calories. So I’ve tried to teach my children to appreciate the true function of food, which is to fuel your body and to get the nutrients that it needs. Celebrations involve food and that is fine. It’s something to wait for and look forward to. It’s not something to expect every meal or even once a week.

Our relationship with food has become very dysfunctional where everything revolves around it. We deny ourselves nothing. We believe that if we crave it, we need it when in fact, we just want it. If we held off just a few minutes, we might even forget about the craving. Sometimes cravings are a signal that isn’t food-related. For instance, oftentimes when we are dehydrated, we register it as hunger so if you hydrate properly a lot of cravings will subside.

But enough about that. Let’s get back to the ham…

Coke ham is what my boys look forward to all year. They endure a LOT of chicken breast, ground turkey and fish so I don’t hold back when the holidays come around.

This bad boy is simple and always comes out delicious. Take a bone in ham and place it in a baking bag. Pour a 2 liter bottle of Coke in, close it up and bake according to the cook time and temp on the ham you have.
