If you’re like me, taking a few minutes before a workout to activate your core, pelvis, and glutes, and move through something like the World’s Greatest Stretch, becomes more than just a warm-up.
It’s a check-in.
🪄 How do I feel today?
🪄 Where am I tight?
🪄 Where am I moving well?
🪄 What needs a little extra attention before I start loading weight?
For example, if my hips feel restricted, my body may compensate somewhere else during squats or deadlifts. If my core isn’t engaging well, my lower back might end up doing more work than it should. By tuning in beforehand, I can address those things before they become limitations.
What fascinates me is that the same movement can reveal something different every single time. The more I pay attention, the more body awareness I develop, and I start noticing patterns:
➡️ My hips are always tighter after long drives.
➡️ My thoracic spine feels restricted when I’ve been stressed.
➡️ My glutes aren’t firing today, so I need a little more activation.
When I slow down and really listen, my body gives me feedback. Tightness, limitations, imbalances, strengths—it all shows up.
That’s why I don’t do these movements just to warm up. I do them because they help me understand what my body needs that day.
The better I understand my body, the better I can train it. ✨💪🏽🫶🏽
