Mental game! 🧠 it’s such a huge part of hoops. I want to encourage all my hoopers (and coaches) to take the time to invest in their mental. has put lots of time and energy into studying the mental side and psychology of sports. She was an elite college basketball player and has since stayed involved in fitness and furthered her education in mental performance. Step back vs. Hop back. The hop back is a sideways hop. I do use this move, but prefer to use and teach the step back. Notice how the step back creates more space by utilizing a downhill north south drive. The defender is put in a difficult position by going downhill than uphill. With the hop back, the defender can recover using a more lateral movement.
