As race day gets closer, some things start to changeβ€”and some things should stay exactly the same.

Training begins to shift toward race-pace efforts, and I spend more time dialing in travel logistics, checking equipment, and making sure all the little details are covered. But one thing I never change is spending time with the people who make training fun.

For nearly 10 years, I trained with what felt like a ticking time bomb in my right hamstring. Every hard run, every sprint, every race effort, I had that little voice in the back of my head wondering if today was the day it would finally give out and turn into something much worse.

Fortunately, it never did. But looking back, I realize I was treating the symptom rather than addressing the root cause.

This year, I spent a lot of time learning how the entire kinetic chain works together. Instead of just stretching my hamstring and hoping for the best, I focused on strengthening the muscles that support efficient movementβ€”my glutes, hips, core, and posterior chain. I improved my mobility where I needed it and built strength where I was lacking.

What I’ve learned is that injuries aren’t always about the area that hurts. Sometimes the pain is simply the messenger, while weakness or dysfunction elsewhere is the real culprit.

Today, I’m training completely injury-free, and for the first time in a long time, I’m not constantly worried about my hamstring. I’m able to focus on getting stronger, faster, and enjoying the process rather than managing discomfort.

If you’re dealing with a nagging injury that just won’t go away, don’t overlook the bigger picture. Sometimes the solution isn’t doing more to the injured areaβ€”it’s strengthening the entire system around it. πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸƒπŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

Before I got serious about endurance training, I’d see a 5-mile run on my calendar and suddenly become the busiest person on earth. πŸ˜‚

Laundry? Had to get done.
Dishes? Emergency.
Scrolling social media? Mission critical. πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

The thought of running 5 miles sounded exhausting before I even laced up my shoes. I’d spend more energy trying to avoid the workout than it would’ve taken to just go do it. πŸ˜…

Now it’s normal to run distances that make people ask, β€œWait… you did that on purpose?” πŸƒπŸ½β€β™‚οΈπŸ’¨

One of the coolest things about endurance training isn’t the races, medals, or finish linesβ€”it’s watching your definition of hard change over time. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

The runs that once felt impossible become routine. The distances that used to scare you become your easy day. πŸ’ͺ🏽
