The bible reads that if two or more are gathered, God will be present. On Monday, Capt. Juan Cruz and I entertained T. Wayne Brewster, Father Desy Daniels, and Louis Diaz. It was Diaz's first time fishing with us.
This day was way more than just fishing. It was a gathering of believers, enjoying fellowship, prayer, and all of God's creation.
The wind was howling, so we fished the northern end of Galveston Bay. Water wasn't great. In fact, it was really muddy. We had to move around a lot, catching a fish or two, here and there. In the end, God worked it out and rewarded us with a mixed box of fish, trout, a red, and some black drum.
Capt. Juan and I reflected on the day as we drove home. We both agreed that God placed us all together once again, not just to catch fish but to share testimony of God's goodness with each other. It was such a great morning on the water.

Finally, I got back out on the water on Saturday. Alan Stubblefield has fished with me for over 30 years. This day, he also brought his stepson, HPD Homicide Detective John Stroble, with him. This is the very first time I've fished with John. We left out of Eagle Point, and I wanted to check out the water condition in the upper part of the bay. As I suspected, it wasn't good at all. It was a low tide, and the water was muddy. They baited their lines with live shrimp and made a cast anyway. John hooked into a big 27-inch black drum, the largest fish he'd ever caught. Too bad he wasn't registered in the Star tournament because he could have possibly been sitting on top of the leaderboard. They boated some nice black drum, then the bite quit. We headed out to the channel, where the water was in much better shape. John landed a 27-28 inch red, and missed another good one. Alan boated a couple more black drum. Storms started popping up around us. We even got rained on a couple of times. At 10:00 a.m., they had enough. Storms were building, so we headed back to the camp. It was an enjoyable morning, and I'm glad Detective Stroble could join us. His job has to be tough and stressful. Hopefully, he decompressed a little on Saturday morning.

Hey gang, Here's a couple of reports from Capt. Juan Cruz and I. We both had trips on Friday out of the camp.
Capt. Juan fished with Al Aguirre and his friend Richard. Cruz decided to run out to the middle of the bay and brave the choppy conditions. They bounced around and ended up with a mixed box of speckled trout and black drum, and one redfish. All were caught on live shrimp under popping corks.
I fished with Jonathan Jolly and his seven year old son Liam. It was Liam's first saltwater experience. I opted to start my day in protected waters and went to an area where I did not catch a fish the day before. Anyway, young Liam went to work catching several upper slot size drums and one keeper red. His dad managed to land a few, but it was Liam's day, and he let his dad know about it. All the fish were caught on live shrimp fished under popping corks. A good early Father's Day for Jonathan and Liam.
Looks like we're in for some more rain to start the week. I pray that no flooding occurs with this tropical moisture.

We have a nice supply of “Live Shrimp” for Saturday morning. The anglers fishing around structure where they have been protected from week day winds have done very well. The catches have included Speckled Trout, Drum, Redfish, and Sheepshead. Eagle Point will open at 5:30am for business and look forward to serving those that make it to the Point! 🎣👍

After battling the winds over the weekend, I enlisted the help of Capt. Juan Cruz for Monday's fishing trip. His boat was on the trailer. We met T Wayne Brewster, John Zdansky, Ann Zdansky, and Father Desy Daniels up in Baytown. Of course, early that morning, it was raining but stopped around 7:30 a.m.. The wind blew like predicted, and the water quality wasn't good. We had to move around a lot, catching two to four fish each stop. Capt. Juan took care of T Wayne and John while I was in the bow of the boat with Father Desy and Ann. I enjoyed sharing stories of faith with both of them. At the end of the day, these four put together a good box of fish despite the conditions. They landed 8 keeper specs, with Father Desy catching his limit and 16 black drum. A great day of fishing and fellowship!

Friday afternoon, I was at my house when my phone rang. On the other end was a gentleman explaining that he had just sold his boat. He said, "The couple I sold it to wanted to know if you could take them out in the bay on Saturday?" So, I chatted with Jerald Lobstein, the new boat owner. He and his wife Tiny drove in from Brownwood, Texas, to purchase this boat. I had to Google Brownwood and saw it wasn't close to any saltwater. He had just retired from his job at 3M, but he will still raise his cattle and guide trophy deer hunts. This was his present to himself to use on the areas lake, a 22 ft. Center Console Epic. Well, anyway, they were staying in a hotel near Texas City for the night, so I told them to meet at Eagle Point. After going through the boat before launching, all seemed well. Proper safety equipment, ect., checked out. I told him, "Let's get some shrimp and see if this boat can catch fish while we run around the bay." I had my rods with me, just had to grab a landing net from my boat, and off we went. The boat ran great, so I decided to fish somewhere I haven't been all year. This was his wife's first time in saltwater water. She got all excited when she caught the first fish, then more after that. It was a great morning with these two, both Jesus' loving people, and they took home some fillets, but better yet, a really nice, new to them boat.

Today, I fished with a good friend of mine, Larry Grissom and his brother-in-law, Dean. The morning started off with a bang hooking into this beast (Jack Crevalle) then a storm popped up so we ran back into Eagle Point Fishing Camp to wait it out. After the storm, we went right back to catching some nice fish. We caught speckled trout, black drum, and a redfish. It was a great day of fishing.
